Review by Anonymous: Good, no problem to install. It is not a perfect fix but this security update works. (6/10/2004, Version: 2004-06-07)

Comment by safariless: Don't know why yet, but, I've lost Safari in all but my sudo account. Permissions indicate readonly priviledge but app will not start. (6/8/2004, Version: 2004-06-07)

Comment by Anonymous: "LaunchServices automatically registers applications, which could be used to cause the system to run unexpected applications.
Discussion: LaunchServices is a system component that discovers and opens applications. This system component has been modified to only open applications that have previously been explicitly run on the system. Attempts to run an application that has not previously been explicitly run will result in a user alert."
This does not address the fundamental problem that the services available to untrusted documents (for example, web pages) and to applications have completely different constraints and requirements.
I recommend not installing this update, and using Paranoid Android from Unsanity instead. Paranoid Android gives you much finer control over what LaunchServices will allow. Oh, and ask Apple to set up separate launch services for trusted and untrusted sources, with the untrusted list including only those services that are specifically designed to work with untrusted documents.
