京ぽん(AH-K3001V)のダメなとこを敢えて挙げる
・動作が重い
重い。ありとあらゆる操作が重い。待ち受け画面からメインメニューを呼び出すのに、ボタンを押してからたっぷり１秒くらい遅延がある。メインメニューを出すというもっとも頻度の高い操作が１秒も遅れるのはどうなのか。このメインメニュー、背景の壁紙に対してαブレンディングが掛かり、しかもアイコンがアニメーションするという凝った仕掛けになっていて、確かに見栄えは良いのだがその処理が遅延に跳ね返っているように思える。処理を絞って軽快に動作するモードを付けるという配慮があれば良かったのだが。
文字入力の重さもまずい。ボタンを押してから操作音（ピッ、っていう短い音）が帰ってくるまでにディレイがあるので、ボタンを押す数を間違えてしまうことが多い。「お」行の仮名を入れるにはボタンを５回連打するが、２割くらいの確率でうっかり６回押してしまう。慣れの問題でもあるのだと思うが不愉快に感じる。予測変換を切るとかなりマシになるが、予測変換を使わないと目に見えて能率が落ちるため使わないわけにはいかない。
京ぽんの一番の売りであるOperaだが、死ぬほど重い。とにかく重い。これはOpera自体の処理の重さと回線の遅さによる重さのダブルアタックなので根が深い。処理の重さについては根本的にマシンスペックの不足であるように思える。また、回線はたったの32kbpsなので当然重い。Operaには「画像をロードしない」と「音楽をロードしない」というオプションがあるのだが、この２つをロードしない設定にしても、大きめのHTMLを読むときには１０秒を超える待ち時間が発生する。ブロードバンド回線に慣らされていると、このロードの遅さには苛立ちを感じてしまうとおもう。
もうとにかくありとあらゆる操作が重い。何かボタンを押して、それが反映されてレスポンスが帰ってくるまでに常にいくらかの間があく。この操作感はなんとかならんのかとおもう。
・データ領域が小さい
ユーザの使用できるデータ領域はたったの1.5MBしかない。この領域に待ち受け画像も着メロもアドレス帳のデータも送受信したメールもクリップしたwebページも何もかも保存することになる。もちろんminiSDなんて刺さるはずがない。1.5MBというのは本当に一瞬で使い尽くしてしまう容量で、それこそ使い始めたその日からこの小さなデータ領域をどうやってやりくりするかに苦悩させられることになる。じつはADPCM2(G.726)でエンコードされたPCMを鳴らせるようになっているのだが、せっかくのその機能もデータ領域の小ささのためにろくに使えない。まともな音質のデータを格納するような余裕がないのだ。
・まともに見られるWebページは思いのほか少ない
Operaが付いているとなるとPC向けのWebページを見放題だと思ってしまうが、まあ確かにそれはそうなのだが、「とりあえずレンダリングして画面に表示できる」ことと、「快適に見られる」ことの間にはとても深い溝がある。そもそも京ぽんの液晶のサイズはQVGA（320×240）である。このサイズにPC用に作られたWebページを表示しようというのだからどうしても無理が生じるのは想像に難くない。
京ぽんのOperaには「フルスクリーンモード」と「ケータイモード」という２つの表示モードがある（ほんとはもう一つ「スモールスクリーンモード」というのがあるのだがこれはあまり使われないと思うので省く。ぼくはまったく使ってない）。「フルスクリーンモード」ではPCで表示したときに近いレイアウトになり、縦横にスクロールする。「ケータイモード」ではふつーの携帯向けサイトっぽいレイアウトになり、スクロールは縦方向のみになる。で、「フルスクリーンモード」はスクロールの手間があまりにも鬱陶しくきわめて使いづらい。文章１行の長さが液晶の横の長さを超えるため、１行ずつ、横方向にスクロールしながら読まなくてはならないのだがとてもやっていられない。「ケータイモード」では複雑なレイアウトのサイトを表示するときに破壊的に表示が崩れる。たとえばyahooのトップサイトなどもうどうしようもないくらいに崩れてしまう。こちらもやはり使いづらい。
結果として、まともに見られるサイトは文字情報が中心でレイアウトの複雑でないサイトに限られる。flashなど、京ぽんのOperaでは未対応のリソースもWebに溢れている。
・バッテリーの持ちが悪い
まだリチウムイオン電池がこなれてきていないので、断定的には言えないが、かなり悪いと思う。
・カメラがしょぼい
言うまでもないが１１万画素というのは現在では相対的にスペックとして見劣りする。このクオリティだと、日常生活のスナップを撮るにはまあそこそこ使えるのだが、たとえば時刻表を撮ってあとで参照する、というような用途には役に立たない。でもこれは分かりやすい欠点なので多くの場合買う前から納得済みであると思われるため、それほど失望感を感じることにはならないとおもうけど。

・で、最後に
というわけで京ぽんにはダメな箇所がとっても多いのだが、だからといってぼくが京ぽんをゲットしたことを後悔しているかというとそれは大間違いで、後悔などまったくしていない（偉そうに言えば、京ぽんはぼくにとってはiPod以来の「所有することに悦びを感じるデバイス」なのだ）。ただ、あくまでも過渡期のデバイスという感じで製品として洗練されておらず、たとえば無条件で他人に勧められるようなものではないとおもう。
京ぽんのコンセプトには全面的に賛同するし、この方向性を追求し、音声端末のクオリティを向上させていくことをDDIポケットに望んで止みません。
