How AI views the “Augmentism vs. Immersionism” issue

If you’re one of my ±20 regular readers since the dawn of this blog (over two decades ago!), you might remember the ancient debate, launched by Henrik Bennetsen, in his seminal article on Augmentation vs. Immersion (written back in December 7th 2006!), and which has caught my attention so strongly that […]

Linden Lab Announces ‘Pause’ On AI Character Design

My thoughts and ideas on the ongoing ‘pause’ of Linden Lab’s AI ‘experiment’ with Convai and LLM-powered NPCs. Originally to be posted at the community forums, but it grew out of proportion, so it became its own post on my much-neglected blog instead.

Your Personal Stylist

Last night I went to a rockabilly party. Because I was in a hurry, I asked my Personal Stylist for guidance — that is, ChatGPT (who else?), the Rachel Zoe of digital fashion advice. And after some exchanges of tips and ideas, this is how it signed off: AHAHAHA of […]

Trying to set up a crude prototype system to test BIMI using open-source tools

I’m looking for information on how to embed a logotype on a X.509 PEM certificate, for the purposes of doing some tests with BIMI, using OpenSSL to generate a CSR. I have assembled all bits and pieces I need, except figuring out how to ‘convert’ the ASN.1 definition of the logotype-embedding extension into a so-called ‘configuration file’ that the OpenSSL CLI will accept.

Real-time statistics from Second Life

This is a simple experiment which I did while trying to learn how to programme in Google AppScript, which allows data from a Google Sheet to be imported from the ‘outside world’, placed & properly formatted in a spreadsheet, and lastly presented as a nice graph. Like everything that Google […]

Playing with Panoramas

I have to say, I love this new feature of SL! I know, LL could have spent that time improving a gazillion things, but sometimes we also need useless but fun featurettes to play with… I have taken a look at some very complex plugins/toolkits that can string together several […]

Keep Calm and Stay In-World

Keep Calm and Stay In-World

In these troubled days, when all Humankind meets a common enemy — one that is invisible but pernicious and potentially lethal— it’s nice to remember that we all can always connect together in a virtual world, and never be alone. Stay safe — indoors!

Aye, it was another website update…

Times change, it’s a new year, I have a huge article to finish here, and I’ve also released some new (intriguing) snippets of programming for Second Life™<=> External Server integration, which I hope to write a bit about as well. But in the mean time, I’ve refreshed the look of the […]

Project Sansar is just around the corner, but I doubt that Second Life is going to disappear

As I patiently sit at home while waiting for one of my servers to complete its tribulations (long story!), I was briefly scanning some of the ‘old’ places in the SLogosphere (do people still call it these days?) where I used to hang around for inspiration about what would be […]

Ancient clothes templates

Because these are not always easy to find online, here is a zip file for these ancient templates, done by people like Damien Fate and Chip Midnight, eons ago: all_fashion_design_templates-folder (click to download all of them and many more)

Once in a while, I like to pop over to the Singularity freaks at Singularity HUB; they are the sort of crazy that I often enjoy — trying to figure out where we’re going, based on the trends of current technology advancement. They will get most things wrong, of course, but […]

If you were one of the chosen, would you upgrade your membership to SecondLifeTime?

  • Yes, but only if it weren't so expensive. I already spent way more than that in SL! (50%)
  • Actually, I'm considering *downgrading* to Basic, because being Premium is completely pointless. (50%)
  • Yes, without thinking twice! What an awesome discount! I plan to be around to enjoy Second Life for another 20 years! (0%)
  • Maybe, I'm still considering my choices. (0%)
  • Probably not, since SL is possibly not worth *that* much, and I've been Basic for ages anyway. Unless the weekly stipend was MUCH higher... (0%)
  • No, because it simply isn't worth it. I can go around being Basic and benefitting from the whole SL experience anyway. (0%)
