the thing is that if they were actually a marxist they would have to reconcile with the fact that the key problem with incest—as well as pedophilia, which was not mentioned in this post, but is being disseminated by the same people—is an inherent power imbalance
in the case of incest, even with the breakdown of the nuclear family in favour of communal family, it’s coercion, even if they’re siblings or cousins. not only does it have biological consequences (remember charles darwin? remember the habsburgs?), but it additionally creates a dangerous environment where consent boundaries are already discouraged and communicating boundaries risks harm, both psychological and physical, especially if one’s elders are involved or discover what’s happening
additionally, incest has historically happened in two cases:
1. the concept of race supremacy leads to racists inbreeding to remain, “pureblood;” this is why it’s been a common thing in people who defined themselves as royalty
2. extreme isolation in poor living conditions leads to inbreeding to continue the family line, a notable case turning peoples’ skin increasingly blue
in either case, breaking the, “taboo,” in question is either reinforcing a structure of white supremacy, or behaving as though things people have done in extremely desperate situations are something that should be normalized—i genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if these folks started advocating for anthropophagia
in the case of pedophilia, there is an additional, irreconcilable biological power imbalance. the older person is both more physically and intellectually developed
while, yes, teenagers (who are children) will generally have sex with each other in their later years, an adult wanting to have sex with teenagers or even younger children presents not only this physical power imbalance, but also a social imbalance: the child doesn’t have the means to properly resist or escape their rapist—and it is in fact rape, because this is what makes it so that children cannot consent
as for the folks that try to apply this to art, there’s a massive difference between someone making informative art which can be helpful to getting people to talk about things happening them, or even venting about their lived experiences, and someone making art of an adult fucking a kid because it arouses them to think of children like onaholes
this is easily explained with two issues:
1. michael parenti emphasized that liberals will often complain about whether fascists have civil rights. the fascists should not be able to vote. the fascists should not have newspapers. the fascists should not work sensitive jobs or have media appearances. wherein incest and pedophilia are both power imbalances, this same critique must be applied
2. do you remember how the rebuttal to, “it’s just a joke?” is, “that joke contains oppressive ideas which you’re reinforcing?” the exact same critique must be applied here
the key difference between, “uncomfortable art has a right to exist,” and, “this is clear propaganda which must be suppressed,” is the intention of the art: is it drawing attention to a problem, to educate? is it someone explaining their lived experience? or is it being made to promote it as normal and acceptable?
remember: the moment you publicize something, it isn’t a, “thought crime.” you’re being criticized for openly promoting reactionary rhetoric. if you have those thoughts internally, you find ways to properly combat it—you don’t accept it as normal and try to get everyone else to agree with you
