Abstract
Description
一方、従来の燃料電池として、特許文献2に開示されたものが提案されている。この燃料電池は図26に示すように、空気極側コレクタ71と、燃料極側コレクタ72との間にセパレータ基板73が介在されている。前記空気極側コレクタ71は、図27に示すように、固体電解質膜74に接触され、かつ撥水層を備えた空気極側拡散層75に接触される底部71aと、前記セパレータ基板73に接触される頂部71bと、底部71a及び頂部71bに形成された網目状の開口部71cとにより構成されている。前記空気極側コレクタ71に形成されたガス通路によって酸化ガスが空気極側拡散層75に供給される。発電によってガス通路に生成され水がガス通路の下流側に流れる。
特許文献4に開示された燃料電池は、生成水を排水するための排水ポンプが必要になるので、その分、発電電力が消耗されて、発電効率を向上することができないという問題があった。
本発明の燃料電池において、前記第1突部は、半円管状の突部と扁平台状の突部との二種類を含み、前記二種類の突部は交互に点在するように成形され、前記扁平台状の突部において前記第2電極触媒層に接触される面は平面であり、前記半円管状の突部において前記第2電極触媒層に接触される面は円弧面であることが好ましい。
又、本発明の燃料電池において、前記第1ガス流路形成体と第1セパレータとの間には、前記水流路と同様の水流路が形成され、該第1ガス流路形成体は、前記第2ガス流路形成体と同様の構成を有することが好ましい。
本発明の燃料電池において、前記第1突部は、半円管状の突部と扁平台状の突部との二種類を含み、前記二種類の突部は交互に点在するように成形され、前記扁平台状の突部において前記第2電極触媒層に接触される面は平面であり、前記半円管状の突部において前記第2電極触媒層に接触される面は円弧面であることが好ましい。
本発明の燃料電池において、前記水流路の深さは、10μm~50μmの範囲に設定され、第1ガス流路の深さは、30μm~1000μmに設定されていることが好ましい。
カソード側に前記水流路が設けられている場合には、カソード側のガス流路形成体のガス流路内の生成水が連通孔を通して毛管作用によって前記水流路に吸い込まれ、該水流路内の水は、ガス流路内を流れる酸化ガスの流動圧力によって導出通路側へ排出されるため、電極触媒層に酸化ガスが適正に供給される。そのため、酸化ガス欠乏の発生が回避され、発電効率が向上する。ガス流路に生成水が残留するのが防止され、ガス流路内を流れる酸化ガスの生成水による圧力損失が低減されて、発電効率が向上する。
以下、本発明にかかる燃料電池を具体化した第1実施形態を図1~図5にしたがって説明する。
発電セル12は、図3に示すように四角枠状をなし、合成ゴム(又は合成樹脂)製の第1,第2フレーム13,14と、電極構造体としてのMEA15(Membrane-Electrode-Assembly:膜-電極接合体)とを備えている。第1のフレーム13は、その内側に燃料ガスの流路空間S1を区画しており、第2のフレーム14は、その内側に酸化ガスの流路空間S2を区画している。MEA15は、両フレーム13,14間に配設されている。前記発電セル12は、図1及び図2に示すように前記燃料ガスの流路空間S1に収容されたフェライト系SUS(ステンレス鋼)よりなる第1ガス流路形成体21と、前記酸化ガスの流路空間S2に収容されたチタン或いは金よりなる第2ガス流路形成体22とを備えている。さらに、前記発電セル12は、チタンよりなる第1セパレータ23及び第2セパレータ24を備えている。第1セパレータ23は、平板状に形成され、第1フレーム13及び第1ガス流路形成体21の図示上面に接着されている。第2セパレータ24は、フレーム14及び第2ガス流路形成体22の図示下面に接着されている。図3は、前記ガス流路形成体21,22の構成を平板状に簡略化して示している。
図2において、前記燃料ガスの供給通路M1に供給された燃料ガスは、前記第1ガス流路形成体21のガス流路T1内を矢印方向に流れる際に、多数の第1突部26に衝突して、燃料ガスの乱流が発生する。これにより、燃料ガスは、ガス流路T1内において拡散した状態となる。この燃料ガスは、第1ガス拡散層19を通過することによってさらに適正に拡散されて、第1電極触媒層17に均一に供給される。
(1)上記第1実施形態では、アノード側の第1及び第2突部26,27を有する第1ガス流路形成体21の平板材25とセパレータ23との間には、水流路28が形成されている。前記水流路28の深さがガス流路T1の深さよりも浅く形成されている。平板材25と第1ガス拡散層19との間に形成されたガス流路T1内の浸透水は、前記第1突部26に形成された連通孔29を介して前記水流路28に導かれる。前記水流路28内に導かれた浸透水は、燃料ガスの流動圧力によって燃料ガスの導出通路M2側へ排出される。このような構成により、第1電極触媒層17に燃料ガスが適正に供給されるため、第1電極触媒層17の水素欠乏状態が回避され、発電効率が向上する。
(第2実施形態)
次に、この発明の第2実施形態を図6~図8に基づいて説明する。以下に示す各実施形態において、前述した第1実施形態と同様の機能を有する部材については、同一の符号を付してその説明を省略し、第1実施形態との異なる構成、作用及び効果を中心に説明する。
図6及び図8に示すように、第2ガス流路形成体22において酸化ガスの導出通路R2と第2ガス流路形成体22のガス流路T2及び水流路28とが接続する部分において、例えば連続気孔を備えたウレタンスポンジ、海面等の多孔質体よりなる排水促進部材30が収容されている。この排水促進部材30の連続気孔の気孔率は、50~80容量%の範囲に設定されている。又、前記連続気孔の平均孔径は、前記水流路28の深さ(10μm~50μm)よりも小さく(例えば50μm~25μm)設定されている。そして、この排水促進部材30により、ガス流路T2を流れ出た酸化オフガスを円滑に通過させるとともに、水流路28から流れ出た浸透水(生成水)を前記連続気孔の毛管作用により吸い込むことができる。
アノード側とカソード側とのガス流路T1,T2において、浸透水及び生成水が同様の態様で排出されるため、図7,8を用いてカソード側の生成水が排出される態様のみについて説明する。
(第3実施形態)
次に、図9~図13に基づいて、この発明の第3実施形態について説明する。
上記第3実施形態においては、図9に示すように、カソード側の供給通路R1からガス流路形成体22のガス流路T2に進入した酸化ガスは、図10に矢印で示すように、蛇行して乱流状態となって拡散しつつ、酸化ガスの導出通路R2側に流れる。ガス流路T2内の生成水の水滴Wは、連通孔29を通して、多数箇所に点在する平面部31aとセパレータ24とによって形成された水流路28の毛管作用により、連通孔29を通して水流路28に流入する。水流路28に流入した生成水は、ガス流路T2を流れるガスの流動圧力によって、水流路28を通じてセパレータ24の裏面に沿って下流側に移動する。この動作を繰り返すことによって、水流路28により生成水が円滑に下流側に案内される。図10において、生成水Wの流動経路が矢印L1,L2により示されている。
(変形例)
なお、本発明は以下のような実施形態に変更してもよい。
・第2実施形態では、排水促進部材30の連続気孔の平均気孔径を、前記水流路28の深さ(10μm~50μm)よりも小さく(例えば5μm~25μm)設定して、毛管作用により水流路28内の水を排水促進部材30の連続気孔に吸い込むようにした。これに代えて、前記排水促進部材30の連続気孔の濡れ性が水流路28の濡れ性よりも高く設定されてもよい。換言すれば、前記排水促進部材30の連続気孔の液滴接触角が水流路28の液滴接触角よりも大きく設定されていてもよい。又、前記排水促進部材30の連続気孔の水和性が、水流路28の水和性よりも高くなるようにしてもよい。これらの場合には、排水促進部材30の連続気孔の平均気孔径が、前記水流路28の深さよりも大きく設定されていても、水流路28内の水が排水促進部材30の連続気孔に適正に吸い込まれる。
・前記各実施形態の燃料電池において、ガス拡散層19,20が省略されてもよい。

前記第1ガス流路から前記連通孔を通して毛管作用により前記水流路に吸い込まれた水は、前記第1ガス流路内の前記燃料ガスの流動圧力によって前記燃料ガスの導出通路に排出される
ことを特徴とする燃料電池。 - 請求項16に記載の燃料電池において、
前記水流路は、前記第1ガス流路形成体における前記燃料ガスの導入通路側の端部から前記燃料ガスの導出通路側の端部までの全域にわたって連続するように形成されている
ことを特徴とする燃料電池。 - 請求項16又は17に記載の燃料電池において、
前記第1ガス流路形成体において前記燃料ガスの導出通路と前記水流路とが接続する部分には、連続気孔を有する多孔質体よりなる排水促進部材が収容され、該排水促進部材の連続気孔の平均気孔径を水流路の深さよりも小さく設定する構成と、排水促進部材の連続気孔の濡れ性を水流路の濡れ性よりも高く設定する構成と、排水促進部材の連続気孔の水和性を水流路の水和性よりも高く設定する構成とのいずれか一つの構成が選択されている
ことを特徴とする燃料電池。 - 請求項16~18のいずれか一項に記載の燃料電池において、
前記第1ガス流路形成体は、前記平板材と、該平板材に成形され、前記第1ガス流路を形成するための第1突部と、前記平板材に成形され、前記水流路を形成するための第2突部とにより構成され、
前記第1突部は、前記平板材の複数箇所に点在するように前記第1電極触媒層に向かって切り起こし成形され、
前記第2突部は、前記第1セパレータに向かって突出するとともに、前記平板材の複数箇所に点在するように押し出し成形され、
前記連通孔は、前記第1突部において前記切り起こし成形により前記平板材に形成された孔である
ことを特徴とする燃料電池。 - 請求項17に記載の燃料電池において、
前記第1突部は、ブリッジ状に成形され、
前記連通孔は、ガスの流れ方向と直交する方向に沿って前記第1突部を貫通し、ガスの流れ方向から見て前記第1突部の左端と右端との二箇所において開口するように形成され、
対を成す2つの前記第1突部は、前記ガスの流れ方向と直交する方向において隣接し、且つ前記一対の第1突部のうち、前記ガスの流れ方向の上流側に位置する突部の下流端部は、前記ガスの流れ方向の下流側に位置する突部の上流端部に隣接しており、
前記第2突部は、前記ガスの流れ方向の下流側から前記第1突部に隣接するように配設されている
ことを特徴とする燃料電池。 - 請求項19に記載の燃料電池おいて、
前記第1突部及び前記第2突部は、前記ガスの流路方向と直交する方向において交互に配列されて、列状を成す複数の突部群を構成し、
該突部群は、ガスの流れ方向に沿って所定の間隔を隔てて互いに平行に配置され、
前記各突部群の各列の間には、帯状の平板部が形成され、前記平板部と前記第1セパレータとの間には、前記水流路が形成され、
前記連通孔は、前記第1突部においてガスの流れ方向の上流に向かって開口するように形成される
ことを特徴とする燃料電池。 - 請求項19~21のいずれか一項に記載の燃料電池において、
前記第1ガス流路形成体は、前記平板材と、該平板材に成形され前記第1ガス流路を形成するための第1突部とにより構成され、
前記第1突部は、前記平板材の複数箇所に点在するように前記第1電極触媒層に向かって切り起こし成形され、
前記第1セパレータには、第2突部が前記平板材に向かって突出するとともに、該第1セパレータの複数箇所に点在するように押し出し成形され、
前記連通孔は、前記第1突部の前記切り起こし成形により前記平板材に形成された孔である
ことを特徴とする燃料電池。 - 請求項19~22のいずれか一項に記載の燃料電池において、
前記第1突部はガスの流れ方向と直交する方向から見た場合に、前記連通孔が半円形となるように半円管状に成形されていることを特徴とする燃料電池。 - 請求項19~23のいずれか一項に記載の燃料電池において、
前記第1突部は、半円管状の突部と扁平台状の突部との二種類を含み、前記二種類の突部は交互に点在するように成形され、前記扁平台状の突部において前記第2電極触媒層に接触される面は平面であり、前記半円管状の突部において前記第2電極触媒層に接触される面は円弧面である
ことを特徴とする燃料電池。 - 請求項16又は17に記載の燃料電池において、
前記第1ガス流路形成体は、前記平板材と、該平板材に成形され、前記水流路及び前記第1ガス流路を形成するための前記突部としての第1隆起と、前記平板材に成形され、同じく前記第2ガス流路を形成するための前記突部としての第2隆起とにより構成され、
前記第1隆起は、前記平板材の複数箇所に点在するように、前記第1電極触媒層に向かって押し出し成形され、
前記第2突部は、前記平板材の複数箇所に点在するように、前記第1セパレータに向かって押し出し成形され、
前記第1隆起及び前記第2隆起は、ガスの流れ方向と直交する方向に沿って所定のピッチで交互に成形されることにより、ガスの流れ方向と直交する方向に延びる隆起群を構成し、
前記連通孔は、前記ガスの流れ方向において隣接する2つの隆起の切り起こしによって形成され、
前記第1隆起及び前記第2隆起の頂部には、平面部がそれぞれ形成され、
該平面部のうち前記第1セパレータと対応する第1隆起の平面部には、前記第1セパレータと接触して、該平面部と前記第1セパレータとの間に前記水流路を形成するための突起が成形されている
ことを特徴とする燃料電池。 - 請求項19~25のいずれか一項に記載の燃料電池において、
前記各第1突部又は各第1隆起は、第2ガス流路がストレート流路と、蛇行流路との二種類となるように配列されていることを特徴とする燃料電池。 - 請求項16~26のいずれか一項に記載の燃料電池において、
前記水流路の深さは、10μm~50μmの範囲に設定され、第1ガス流路の深さは、30μm~1000μmに設定されている
ことを特徴とする燃料電池。 - 請求項16~27のいずれか一項に記載の燃料電池において、
前記水流路の下流側の開口部は、ガスの導出通路と対応する位置に延長され、該開口部と対応する導出通路の通路断面積は、ガスの流速が速くなるように狭く設定されている
ことを特徴とする燃料電池。 - 請求項16~27のいずれか一項に記載の燃料電池において、
前記ガス流路形成体の平板材及びセパレータには、それらと直交する方向に排水通路が形成され、該排水通路の通路断面積は、ガスの流速が速くなるように狭く設定されている
ことを特徴とする燃料電池。
