For Trans Day of Visibility, I wanted to revisit my decade-old graphic essay about reading Holmes as trans. Originally written for the second issue of the much-missed Practical Handbook, it remains the most popular post on my blog and probably one of the pieces I am most proud of! I did not really want to simply update it, since it is an introduction of sorts to the subject – and I sincerely promise that within the next decade I will finish writing my actual essay – so I thought I’d instead reflect from a more personal angle. I love queer history, I love queer readings, I love fandom meta, I love Holmes scholarship, and most of all I love being trans. I’ve changed a lot as a person in the past ten years but my constant has always been the support of my friends, peers, and everyone who interacts with my art and ramblings! Would definitely recommend questioning your gender…and also making more characters trans and more trans characters.

You know, I’ve dealt with tracing and stealing of my art a lot in recent years. I usually deal with it privately and just move on. But THIS… this is a whole new level of arrogance and lies for me. I literally expected any explanation, justification and apology, but not this.
“It’s bad luck that I entered into the art world just before AI came out.”
This also made me furious because we have A TON of young artists who REALLY struggles because of AI shit and this one, who LITERALLY use AI, play a victim. I thought my last post would be the end of this story, but this double down just completely pissed me off. Just in case, I’ll remind you that no, this is not a minor, not a schoolkid, this is an adult who did all this and took money for this “art”.
So sick of it already oh my

I see a lot of folks lament that they want to talk about their ocs, share their art or fics or whatever but they don’t because they don’t think anyone will care or they don’t want to “be annoying”.
And maybe its a symptom of content culture in general where people think they have to have an audience to make it “worth” posting their ideas but you can literally just start!
Maybe no one will care. Maybe the things you spent a lot of time and effort on will get no notes at all but its not less than if you never shared at all.
It’s scary to put stuff out there, especially when people can be nasty for no reason. But seriously, there is absolutely no harm in just gushing about your oc unprompted. It’s not annoying. Fandoms thrive on this shit.
Go forth, share your gotdamn ocs.

Last Book: i started reading Bookshops and Bonedust by Travis Baldree lately! but really realistically i’ve been spending more time rereading my partner and i’s novel length roleplay log that we recently completed (187k words over 4 months, yay) lmao

Last Movie: i immediately thought of The Substance (2024) which i watched with my sibling end april, but the truth is that i watched the 3 sonic movies with my partner after that lolll i wanted to mention the substance tho, fantastic movie

Last Game: currently playing Slow Damage with my partner weekly, we’ve gone through 2 main routes and almost done with the 3rd now

Last TV Show: currently watching Emerald Witch Arc with my partner AND re-watching Steven Universe from the beginning!

Sweet/Spicy/Savory: savory definitely

Relationship: happily committed and pretty much engaged, with my best friend <333

Favorite Color: it’s hard to say haha, i like all colors! my wardrobe is fairly muted bc it’s easier that way, but i guess my favorite color to use in art is blue bc it covers such a wide expanse. it’s just so easy to make blue shine and sparkle
