To specify, design, implement, read, understand, document, appreciate, criticize, test, qualify, debug. maintain, adapt, port or improve programs, we need to understand the notations which serve to express their final form: programming languages.
A small number of concepts underlines the hundreds of programming languages that have been designed and implemented. In this course, we shall learn concepts that serve as a basis for programming languages. We shall describe various programming language paradigms from the points of view of the programmer and the implementer, and demonstrate the most common methods used to analyse, translate, and execute programs on machines.
