25 November 2004 Google Scholar, A New Useful Resource
Google has started a new service aimed specifically at the community of scholars in all disciplines. The new service is called Google Scholar, and enables you to search specifically for scholarly literature, including peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, preprints, abstracts and technical reports from all broad areas of research.
I tried a few searches on it, and I am very impressed by what I saw. For instance, when I tried to find some information on papers by Jan Bergstra dealing with hybrid systems, I used the query
and received nine topical hits, plus citation information.
I also tried the query
and received five t(r)opical hits.
The query
gave me an idea of the work of the Dean of my new school.
Finally, I always wanted to look at an epoch maching piece by Vannevar Bush entitled "As we may think". I typed
and found a PDF file available from the ACM portal as my first hit in 0.18 seconds.
I think I'll use this service for my literature searches, and I encourage all of you to try it!
