Embedded and time-critical systems; engineering design languages (such as Statecharts and Esterel); semantics (e.g., using process algebra and finite state machines), verification and validation (especially, reachability analysis and model checking).

1998-2000: Staff Scientist at the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (ICASE) at NASA Langley Research Center, USA
2000-2002: Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Sheffield, UK
2003-present:   Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the University of York, UK
