15 October 2004Part Two of an Interesting Essay on Alexandre
Grothendieck in the Notices of the AMS
The November 2004 issue of the Notices of the AMS contains the second part of Comme Appelé du Néant--As If Summoned from the Void: The Life of Alexandre Grothendieck by Allyn Jackson. This is the final installment of a fascinating two-part article on the life and mathematics of Alexandre Grothendieck, one of the most influential living twentieth-century mathematicians.
I found it a very interesting read, and I hope that so will some of my readers out there. It is amazing that a single man could produce so much mathematics, both in terms of quality (that I can't judge) and quality (tens of thousands of pages!).
You can find out more about the man and its output from the Grothendieck Circle. Happy browsing to all of you!
