Andrea Asperti was born in Bergamo, Italy, in 1961.
In 1989 he obtained a Ph.D in Computer Science from the University of Pisa. In 1990 he obtained a post-doc position at INRIA-Rocquencourt (France), where he was employed as a researcher in 1991.
In 1992, he became Associate Professor at the University of Bologna, Italy.
Since 2000 Andrea Asperti is Full Professor of Programming Languages at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Bologna. In 2004 he was nominated Dean of the Department. He is member of the Advisory Committee of the World Wide Web Consortium.
