He is a Visiting Scientist with the Center for Advanced Studies at the IBM Toronto Laboratory and the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute. He is a principal investigator and Chair of the Technical Steering Committee of CSER, a Canadian Consortium for Software Engineering Research. Together with his research group and in collaboration with IBM he investigates methods, models, architectures, and techniques for autonomic computing applications. He also concentrates on building Adoption-Centric Software Engineering (ACSE) tools and on migrating legacy software to autonomic and network-centric platforms.
Dr. Müller's research interests include software engineering, software evolution, autonomic computing, adoption-centric software engineering, software architecture, software reverse engineering, software reengineering, program understanding, visualization, and software engineering tool evaluation. He was co-organizer of SEAMS 2006, an ICSE 2006 workshop on Software Engineering for Adaptive and Self-Managing Systems (SEAMS). He was co-organizer of DEAS 2005, an ICSE 2005 workshop on the Design and Evolution of Autonomic Application Software.
He co-organized ACSE (Adoption-Centric Software Engineering) workshops at ICSE 2004 and ICSE 2003. He was Program Co-Chair of IBM CASCON 2003. He was General Chair for IWPC-2003, the IEEE International Workshop on Program Comprehension in Portland. He was General Chair for ICSE-2001, the IEEE/ACM International Conference on Software Engineering in Toronto. He was a Program Co-Chair for ICSM-94, the IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance in Victoria, CASE-95, the IEEE International Workshop on Computer-Aided Software Engineering in Toronto, and IWPC-96, the IEEE International Workshop on Program Comprehension in Berlin. Dr. Müller is on the Editorial Board of IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering. He is Vice-Chair of the IEEE Technical Council on Software Engineering (TCSE).
