Radu Marinescu received in 1997 his Diploma-Engineer title in Computer Science and Engineering, and in 1998 his M.S. both from the Faculty of Automation and Computers, "Politehnica" University of Timisoara (Romania). In 2002 he received his Ph.D. (with "magna cum laude" honors) in computer science at the same faculty in collaboration with the University of Karlsruhe (Prof. Gerhard Goos). In his thesis Dr. Marinescu introduced the concept of detection strategy and developed a methodology and a tool for the detection of design flaws in object-oriented systems, based on metrics.

At present he is affiliated with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the "Politehnica" University and the e-Austria Institute in Timisoara (Romania). He is giving lectures on Advanced OO Design and Quality Assurance for both graduate and undergraduate students. Dr. Marinescu is also co-founder of the "LOOSE Research Group" in Timisoara, a research group focused on object-oriented reengineering and quality assurance.

From 1997 till 1999 he participated in the Esprit FAMOOS project on re-engineering, representing FZI Karlsruhe, and is co-author of the "FAMOOS Handbook of Reengineering". He also acted as a reviewer in several phases of the IEEE's SWEBOK (Software Engineering Body of Knowledge) project. Beginning with 1999 he provides consultancy on software metrics, re-engineering and object-oriented design for several high-ranked companies in Spain, Germany, France and Romania. Since 2002 he is external collaborator in the RELEASE EFS research network on software evolution.

He published around 20 papers in international conferences and workshops on metrics, quality, assurance and re-engineering in Europe, USA and China. Several of his published research ideas, are already applied in a well-known commercial CASE tool (Borland Together Control Center).
