- Three men find a bag full of money (millons of dollars). Should they be
honest and turn it in or keep it for themselves and get a chance to escape
from their dull life in a small town?
The theme and the story is somewhat similar
to Very
Bad Things,
but whereas Very Bad Things is too hysterical (in
the typical Hollywood exaggerated acting style), reaching its peak of
intensity already after 20 minutes, leaving you a bit numb and indifferent
to what happens in the rest of the movie,
A simple plan is so slow paced in the beginning that a
narrator has been added to bring some kind of life to it. It gets better,
though, but perhaps not good enough to wake you up if you happened to fall
asleep in the beginning. In both movies there is a woman (played by
Cameron Diaz
in Very Bad Things and by
Bridget Fonda
in A simple plan)
that affects her man to do things against his better judgement.

- Alien: Resurrection (Biopalatset, 971215)
- Knowing that this
Alien
movie was directed by
Jean-Pierre Jeunet,
and having been told by friends that this movie was different from the
others, I could actually enjoy the movie, mostly by not taking
it so seriously and seeing the humour in everything. (But, as Kjell said,
if it is a Volvo you want, you will be disappointed if you get a Saab.)

- Contact (Biopalatset, 971121)
- Dr. Eleanor Arroway (well played by
Jodie Foster)
is a radio astronomer searching for extra terestial intelligence.
The beginning of the movie captures the atmosphere within the research
community in a good way. It touches many issues relating to research
and the possibility of contacting life on other planets:
philosophy of science, Occam's razor, religion, politics. But it seems that
these issues aren't the primary interest of the director
Robert
Zemeckis, since in some of these scenes, the actors
just seem to be reading their lines, without really understanding them.
Some other scenes, dealing with friendship, love and grief, are better.
The movie also contains some excellent visual effects.

Confidential (Biopalatset, 971118)
- L.A. in the fifties. Police. Organized Crime. Who will take over?
Bribes. Drugs. The Nite Owl massacre. Gang rape.
Who is smart and who is not?
What will happen to the beautiful Lynn Bracken
(Kim Basinger)?

- Face/Off (Biopalatset, 971110)
- A movie with a somewhat incredible story, extremely violent,
exaggerated, karate movie style action scenes, that still is very exciting
and capturing. Starring John Travolta and

- My best friend's wedding (Viktoria, 971017)
- Julianne Potter
(Julia
Roberts) and David (?) had a romance 9 years ago
and have since then been best friends.
They made the promise that if they on their
28th birthday hadn't found anyone else to marry, they should marry each
other. Three weeks before her 28th birthday, David calls Julianne and tells
her he is about to be married to another girl.
Julianne becomes desperate...
The sound track consists mostly of
Burt
Bacharach hits!

- The Fifth Element (Biopalatsen 970826).
- Starring Bruce Willis.
Directed by Luc Besson, who also did
The Big Blue and
Nikita.
Simple, humoristic, straight-forward "save the world" story with some
good guys and some bad guys. Technically very well done.
I liked the futuristic environments and the music.
