Loyola College

           Emerging Scholars

                      Computer Science

Overview

For student’s with excellent high-school records, the LCS-ES program works alongside CS201 (the first course towards a CS degree) to improve  the experience, learning, and performance of students taking CS201.  LCS-ES is a program that provides motivated students the opportunity to learn Computer Science in a challenging but friendly environment. LCS-ES students meet in small groups once a week for two hours. Each meeting is led, (over pizza), by a pear leader (an outstanding previous CS201 student), and involves working on challenging problems designed to help you really understand and enjoy the topics taught in class.  Peer leaders facilitate interactive small-group work using visual and hands on materials to reinforce key concepts.  They form part of a non-threatening environment for questions and discussion that provides an opportunity for a better understanding of the materials. The program represents an excellent starting point toward a CS degree from Loyola.
