THE CONFERENCE
Kuwait University, Department of Mathematics in collaboration with
Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) will hold a
3-day Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing from March 13
to March 15, 1995. The Conference will have invited talks by prominent
international researchers in these fields who will bring to the
participants the latest state-of-the-art in these two important areas
of computer science. Besides invited talks, there will be contributed
presentations.
The Conference is specially intended to bring together academicians,
researchers and others interested in the areas of Parallel and
Distributed Computing from G.C.C. countries, in particular, and other
countries, for exchange and acquaintance with the latest
state-of-the-art in those areas.
INVITED TALKS
The following distinguished scientists have accepted to give invited
talks at the Conference.
Prof. David J. Evans (Loughborough University of Technology, UK):
Parallel Agorithms for Solving Linear Systems of Equations.
Prof. Ulrich Hofmann (University of Salzburg, Austria):
Quasi-static Load Sharing in Computer Networks.
Prof. Michel Raynal (IRISA, France):
Analyzing and Debugging Distributed Executions.
Prof. Ahmed Sameh ( University of Minnesota, USA):
CEDAR: An Experiment in Parallel Computing.
CONTRIBUTIONS
Contributions are solicited for presentation at the Conference in the
general areas of Parallel and Distributed Computing. The Conference
will strive to cover the following aspects:
Theory
Software
Techniques
Hardware
Algorithms
Applications
Programming
Author(s) should submit four copies of extended abstracts not
exceeding 1000 words. The abstract must clearly indicate the area of

KUWAIT UNIVERSITY
Kuwait University was established in 1966 as a premier institution for
imparting higher education. Over the years, the University has
steadily built a reputation for its teaching programmes and research
calibre of its faculty. Since the traumatic events of 1990-91, the
University is in the process of strengthening its research base in
front-line areas.
THE DEPARTMENT OF MATHEAMTICS
The Department of Mathematics at Kuwait University offers
undergraduate and graduate programmes in Pure Mathematics, Applied
Mathematics and Computer Science. Currently, it has fifty two faculty
members whose research interests cover a wide spectrum in Mathematics
and Computer Science. The Department maintains its own Computer Center
equipped with SUNs and Silicon Graphic Workstations, backed with most
up-to-date software, in addition to Kuwait University Computer Center
which is equipped with IBM9000 and VAX 9000, supported by latest
state-of-the-art software.

organisation oriented towards public service, was established by an
Amiri Decree issued in 1976. KFAS is managed by a "Board of Directors"
chaired by His Highness The Amir of Kuwait. The aims of KFAS are to
support scientific development in the State of Kuwait, by sponsoring
Basic and Applied Research through grants and fellowships for academic
and training purposes, holding symposia, scientific conferences and
research projects and programs executed jointly with International
scientific establishments.
STATE OF KUWAIT
Kuwait is located at the closed-end of the Gulf. Currently, it has a
