Special Session on
Computing on Clusters of Workstations
IEEE Third International Conference on
Algorithms And Architectures for Parallel Processing
December 8th - 12th, 1997, Melbourne Australia
Session Organizers: Pradip K Srimani, Colorado State University
Mohammed Atiquzzaman, Monash University
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
There has been an increasing interest in the use of loosely-coupled clusters
of workstations connected together by high speed networks for carrying out
parallel/distributed processing. The trend is mainly driven by the cost
effectiveness of such systems as compared to large multiprocessor systems
with tightly-coupled processors and memories. Computing on a cluster of
workstations connected together by high speed networks has given rise to a
range of algorithmic and implementation issues on any given platform. This
special issue is planned to evaluate the present state of the art in network
requirements and developing high performance distributed applications in a
networked environment as well as to explore future directions of research
and development. Topics include (but are not limited to):
* Data distribution and load balancing.
* Characterization of communication and synchronization traffic.
* Large-Scale Distributed System Administration.
* Operating System Software for a network of workstations.
* Parallel Debugger.
* High-Performance Applications on a network of workstations
(e.g., sorting, graph algorithms, matrix algorithms, etc.).
* Issues in Building Scalable Services.
* Network capabilities required to carry out fast communication.
Submission should include authors names, affiliations, addresses, fax and
phone numbers, email addresses, on the cover page. Submission implies the
willingness of at least one of the authors to register and present the
paper, if accepted.
Please submit your full paper (not to exceed 20 double spaced
pages in length) to one of the session organizers
electronically . You should email your postscript file (preferably produced
by dvips and viewable by ghostview) by email; you should also send a
separate email with authors' names, addresses, title and abstract of the
paper. Hard copies should be sent only if electronic submission is not
possible (six copies of the hardcopy should be mailed).
