Our expertise covers the design and implementation of complex computer systems which are used in all facets of our lives – from sophisticated databases through to cutting edge game design and mobile phone technologies.
Research driven, our teaching methods are based upon the principles of application learning, where students are constantly required
to apply their theory to real world examples.
Both international and local students, male and female, comment on the accessibility of lecturers, relaxed nature of the department and

Significant, industry driven research has seen La Trobe make solid contributions in many fields of computer science and engineering. Recently recognized as one of the top ten universities in the world for research publications in the field of software engineering. The department has a number of highly regarded research groups and strong international contacts/collaborations.
The department is home to more than 70 full-time staff, 50 casual staff and 1250 students at two campuses, Melbourne (Bundoora) & Bendigo. With over 20 courses involving more than 100 units, students have access to a range of options and extensive resources and assistance.
