Dinner at my inaugural lecture. Visiting Paris during ICSM'07.`

Arie van Deursen

Welcome to the home page of Arie van Deursen. I am a professor in Software Engineering at Delft University of Technology, and part time senior researcher at CWI, the Dutch National Institute for Research in Mathematics and Computer Science.

In Delft I am heading the Software Engineering Research Group. This group employs approximately 20 people, and includes laboratories dedicated to software evolution (the SWERL lab we set up in 2003) and embedded software.

On Mondays I work at CWI, where I'm the project leader of the Software Renovation Research group in the (SEN1) software engineering theme.

Research

My research is concerned with the question how people build and evolve software systems, what the problems are with existing software systems, and whether there are better ways of doing software development and evolution. Usually, I try to find answer to these questions in close collaboration with practitioners and fellow researchers.

Example topics I have published about include aspect-oriented programming, software testing, software architecture, web 2.0 (and Ajax in particular), reverse engineering, program comprehension, and model-driven engineering. See our group's list of past and current research projects to get an impression of the sort of work we do.

I try to keep my list of publications as up to date as possible. Have a look: most of them are downloadable, and I'd appreciate any feedback!
