  Interests, hobbies, etc.

Well. I try to be as many-sided as humanely possible, and my interests are many. Apart from attending the university, which occupies a significant amount of my time, I am very active in many fields of computer science and engineering, as well as art. I am a Unix system administrator for several servers (this server is one of them). I am also interested in various aspects of computer graphics and multimedia in general, and particularly with computer-generated images (raytracing), image processing and manipulation, video and audio compression (and particularly MPEG compression) and much more. I also do some Web design and programming whenever I can.

Aside from computers, I am interested in high fidelity audio, CD technology and audio recording and compression. I also listen to a variety of music. I try to give every musical style a chance, and I like a lot of wildly different music from classical, jazz, pop, new age, rock, techno, dance, underground, rap, soul to experimental, jungle and trance. But very few artists get to the Hall Of Fame, and some of these are Mike Oldfield, Pink Floyd, Radiohead, Simon and Garfunkel, Queen, Jean-Michel Jarre, The Doors, Enya, U2 and perhaps some other artists. Sometimes I stumble across someone I had never heard before, and if I really like the music, they get into the Hall Of Recommendations. In there are the following: Delerium, Vacuum, Garbage, Skunk Anansie, Pulp, Shamen, KLF and many more.

I also try and read as much as I can. Mostly I read science fiction and fantasy, and among all the crap sometimes I find a precious jewel worth reading over and over and over again. I can only but recommend to you The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers, Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller, Jr., The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien, or The Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams. Another truly great book which is available online for free is Gathering Daisies (In Black Latex Caves) by dr. Iain Hotchkies (if you liked Sue Townsend's Adrian Mole book series, you will love this).

What else. Well, I do the usual thing of watching television and going to the movies, but it has been, sadly, too long a time since I have seen a good film. Most of the movies I recommend are classics, and if you have not seen them, well, you should have. So pop out to your local video store and check for these titles: Apocalypse Now, Casablanca (yeah, I know it's almost a cliche, but it is a great movie), Dead Poets Society and Leaving Las Vegas.

If the day had more than 24 hours, I might even be able to regularly go to museums, theatres and concerts, but unfortunately we are stuck with the Earth revolving at the present speed. And I do have to get some sleep.

Oh, and, by the way, I finally do have a girlfriend. (Does that count as "Interests and hobbies"?)

Well, I suppose a home page would not be a home page without a photo of the owner. If you think you can stand the horror of reality without running away screaming in terror, try clicking on the spooky link below.
