　Googleは7月10日、オープンソースプロジェクトのドキュメント公開に向けたWebサイトテーマ「Docsy」を公開した。ドキュメントを公開するサイトを簡単に立ち上げて運用できるという。

ダークモードを強化した「Firefox 68」リリース、延長サポート版（ESR）も提供

　Mozillaは7月9日、オープンソースのWebブラウザ「Firefox 68.0」を公開した。同時に、弔旗サポート版となるExtended Support Release（ESR）の「Firefox for Enterprise」も公開した。

「Linuxカーネル5.2」リリース

　Linuxの開発を主導するLinus Torvalds氏が7月7日、「Linuxカーネル5.2」のリリースを発表した。オーディオデバイス向けのオープンソースファームウェア開発プロジェクト「Sound Open Firmware」のコアがマージされるなど、さまざまな強化が加わっている。

Mozilla、研究開発助成プログラムMozilla Research Grantsで12のプロジェクトを選出

　Mozillaは7月5日、研究開発資金の助成プログラム「Mozilla Research Grants」の2019年上半期（1～6月期）の対象として、インターネットとMozillaにとって12の戦略的優先事項として策定した分野に対応する12プロジェクトを選出した。

「Debian 10（buster）」リリース

　The Debian projectは7月6日、最新のメジャーリリースとなる「Debian 10 （buster）」をリリースした。ディスプレイサーバーとしてWaylandがデフォルトとなったほか、セキュリティ面でも強化が加わった。

「PayPay送りあうと約束したのに返金されない」トラブルに注意喚起

スマートフォン向け決済アプリ「PayPay」では、ユーザー間でアプリ内のPayPay残高をやり取りできる機能を使ったキャンペーンが展開されているが（PayPayの発表）、これを悪用して残高を持ち逃げする行為が発生しているという（ITmedia）。このキャンペーンはPayPayを送ったユーザーと受け取ったユーザーの両方に対し、抽選でボーナスポイントが付与されるというもの。1人あたり最大5,000円相当のPayPayを獲得できる可能性があるとされるが、これを悪用し、「送られたPayPayと同額のPayPayを送り返す」と約束しながら実際には送り返さずに受け取ったPayPayを持ち逃げする行為が発生しているという Twitterなどで面識の無い相手からPayPayの送金を依頼され、それに応じてしまいトラブルが発生する、といったことが発生しているようだ。

携帯モード専用の「Nintendo Switch Lite」、9月20日発売へ

Anonymous Coward曰く、任天堂がNintendo Swtichの新モデル「Nintendo Switch Lite」を発表した。テレビ出力機能を持たず、携帯型ゲーム機としての利用に特化したモデルで、価格は1万9,980円（税別）。発売日は9月20日（4Gamer、ニュースリリース）。テレビ出力機能が省略されたほか、コントローラ（Joy-Con）が本体と一体化され取り外すことができなくなった。別途Joy-ConやNintendo Switch Proコントローラなどの外部コントローラを無線接続して利用することは可能。画面サイズは5.5インチで、Nintendo Switchの6.2インチよりも小さくなっている。解像度は1280×720ピクセルで同じ。そのほか振動機能やモーションIRカメラなども省略された。一方で質量は約275gとNintendo Switchと比べて100g以上軽くなり、サイズは縦1cm、横3cmほど小さくなった。バッテリー持続時間も約3.0～7.0時間と、約30分ほど増えている。

Fire TVでYouTubeが利用可能に。Prime VideoアプリはChromecastに対応

Anonymous Coward曰く、 Amazon.co.jpが7月9日、同社のセットトップボックス（STB）製品「Fire TV」シリーズ向けにYouTubeの公式アプリを提供されることを発表した。また、GoogleのChromecastにAmazon Prime Videoアプリが対応し、Chromecast対応デバイスからChromecast経由でTVへの映像出力が可能になることも明かされた（PC Watch、ITmedia）。 AmazonとGoogleはそれぞれ競合関係にある動画配信サービスを手がけており、互いにハードウェア製品において競合となるそれらの動画配信サービスを利用できないようにしていたが、今年4月に両社が和解することが明らかになっていた（過去記事） YouTube公式アプリが9日に提供されるのは、現在日本で販売しているFire TV Stick（第2世代）、およびFire TV Stick 4K。また、このアプリは2017年以前に発売したFire TV（第2世代、第3世代）、およびFire TV Stick（第1世代）向けにも、今後数カ月以内に配信される予定とのこと。

AppleのHomePod、日本でもようやく発売へ

headless曰く、 Appleのスマートスピーカー「HomePod」が今夏日本でも発売される（製品情報、9to5Mac、The Verge）。 2017年に発表されたHomePodはSiriを使用した操作が可能なスマートスピーカーで、最近になって対応言語に日本語が追加された。AppleのWebサイトには「この夏、登場」と記載されているのみで、具体的な発売日の記載はない。現在のところ注文はできないが、価格は税別3万2,800円となっている。

富山県砺波市、道路にイノシシ侵入防止のための溝とふた（テキサスゲート）を設置

富山県砺波市が、イノシシなどの侵入を防ぐための溝とふたを導入した（北日本新聞社、北国新聞、チューリップテレビ）。幅5メートルのU字溝を3つ並べ、その上を蜂の巣のような網目を持つふたで覆うというもの。動物がこの上を通ろうとすると、動物のひづめがこの網目にはまることになり、これによって動物の侵入を防ぐという。合わせて道沿いには電気柵も設置されているという。同市般若地区ではイノシシによる農作物への被害が発生しており、その対策としてこの仕組みが導入されたそうだ。設置費用は約200万円とのこと。このような溝を使った動物の侵入防止装置は「テキサスゲート」などと呼ばれている。
