Because I have an SSD and because the technology is changing rapidly (Linux too) , I will write what I have done in my SSD in order to reduce the writes (extend lifetime) and also use the TRIM option. This is what I've done in Fedora 20 and can be considered as reliable, on Fedora 20. To reduce the writes (equals to extend the lifetime) on SSD. 1) Mount the /tmp and /var/log/ directories to tmpfs.
