I know that rage increases the damage of non-weapon items. It did with the broken robot toy in a run of mine.
I had a run where I bought the earthbound sword on the first level because I got coal out of a chest. That run was completely broken.
There was a glitch that would let me jump on a block before I landed on the block if I held jump while going up on a wall. That made it a lot easier.
