Cannot make in-app purchases with Apple account balance

What message are you seeing on the screen when you attempt to make a purchase?

There are several possibilities:

• Account is disabled for purchases:

If a message says 'Your Media & Purchases account has been disabled' - Apple Support

• Screen Time restrictions on device or member of a Family Sharing plan where the Organizer prevents purchases.
• Some purchases cannot be made without having a card on file. The card is not charged unless there are not enough funds in the Apple Account. It is noted in this Support Article: "Some purchases might require that you have a credit card on file, even if you use your Apple Account balance to make the purchase".

What you can buy with your Apple Gift Card or Apple Account balance - Apple Support

Check your payment method in Settings ➢ [your name] ➢ Payment & Shipping, ensure it’s valid and update if needed. Also, sign out and back into your Apple Account, then try again.

If it still fails, contact Apple Support directly.
