From 中期英語 yestreen, alteration of yestereven (“last night, yesterday evening”), from 古期英語 ġiestranǣfen (“yesterday evening”), equivalent to yester- +‎ e'en (“evening”). Cognate with West Frisian justerjûn (“yestreen; last night”).
