BRB (plural BRBs)

1. (archaeology) Initialism of bevelled-rim bowl or bevel-rimmed bowl (“a small, undecorated, mass-produced clay bowl, most commonly from the 4th millennium B.C.”).
2. (engineering) Initialism of buckling-restrained brace: a structural brace in a building or other structure, designed to allow the building to withstand cyclical lateral loadings.

     To provide a more reliable source of energy dissipation, the concept of Buckling-Restrained Brace (BRB) was first developed in Japan in the early 1970s. Extensive research was since conducted in Japan and a variety of BRBs have been developed.
