John McKissick (born September 25, 1926 in Greenwood, South Carolina) is the football coach of Summerville High School in Summerville, South Carolina. In 2004, he became the first American football coach in history to win 500 career games. His 500th win came against Mount Pleasant's Wando High School. He had already beaten Wando in 1993, to establish a national high school football record with 406 wins. As of 2009, he hasn't missed a game in 58 years. He has led Summerville to 10 state championships. With over 500 wins, Coach McKissick is the winningest and longest serving all-time high school football coach. He graduated from Kingstree High School in Kingstree, South Carolina, then went to Presbyterian College for two years before being drafted into the army (as a paratrooper). He returned to Presbyterian to graduate with a degree in economics in 1951. He then worked for his father for a while before finally getting the coaching job at Summerville High. He has stated at the end of the 2010 season that the 2011 season will be his last and he plans to spend his remaining years with his wife, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Considerations for the next head coach have been made. He has coached all three of his grandsons, Richard and Joe Call, and Donny McElveen. He was elected to the National High School Hall of Fame in 1990.
