The East Asia Free Trade Area (EAFTA) initiative of “ASEAN+3”, which consists of ASEAN 10 countries and the three countries of Japan, China and South Korea, has been under study by the joint expert group since 2005, while the Comprehensive Economic Partnership for East Asia (CEPEA) initiative of “ASEAN+6” (Japan, China, South Korea, India, Australia and New Zealand), proposed by Japan in 2006, has been studied by experts from the private sector since 2007.
