Gap Inc. was founded in San Francisco in 1969 with a namesake store selling records and Levi’s jeans. It has since grown into the largest specialty apparel retailer in the U.S., with brands including Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, and Athleta. The company operates 2,500 of its own stores, and franchises around 1,000 locations abroad.
