I have everything under Opera Sync and while it works (new information, like passwords or bookmarks are added) old information does not get removed (my old bookmark folders or trashbin dont get removed). My opera behaves well when I use it however when I restart it, all my deleted bookmarks come back and they get reorganised into the same order they used to be (even deleted folders/bookmarks).

In a nutshell, my opera sync seems to be acting more like a back-up tool when I restart it rather than a real life syncronization.

I have Windows 10 Home 64 bits 16,0 GB Ram

My Opera is up to date: 96.0.4693.80

These issues happen mostly to my bookmarks

I add no screenshots as I dont think they are needed, my bookmarks bar and folders just reset back to "factory" but sync also works as new information is added.

I have no idea how to reproduce this issue, it happens also in another laptop as well after login out and back.

Expected behavior: Real time syncronization (or every few minutes at least).

I love opera and I have been using it for years without complains and I will still probably do so anyway but it would be lovely to be able to fix this, thank you very much.

Kind regards.

I copy all my profile data for safe keeping just in case. I made a new account and while all my info could simply be exported copying the Opera Stable folder, interestinglly enough the issue did not carry over and I could keep my bookmarks however I lost most of my account autofill info (not a big issue but still).

I tried deleting my Sync folder from my computer and while it seemed the issue was fixed it did not last for very long until it came back again.

Re-install Opera did not help however and for some reason a new full install from zero and wiping all Opera content did the trick. I didnt try your solution in the but I will leave it here in case someone needs it too.

Thank you very much for your help.

Goto the URL
opera://about
, take note of the "profile" path.

Goto the URL
opera://bookmarks
and delete the unwanted bookmarks again, and empty the bookmarks trash.

Close Opera and delete the "Sync Data" folder in the profile folder.

Copy the profile folder to a safe place for a backup.

In the profile folder, open the "Bookmarks" file in a text editor and make sure the unwanted bookmarks are actually gone from the file and of course make sure it looks like your wanted bookmarks are there. If not, you'll need to fix that.

If you have any other Operas, make sure they're all logged out of Sync too.

Then, goto https://www.sync.opera.com/ (preferably in another browser), log in, and choose "reset passphrase" to wipe out all your Sync data on the server. You can then log out and close that browser.

Then, start Opera, log into Sync again (like you're setting it up for the first time in Opera), choose to sync everything and let it sync your data from Opera back to the server.

Then, go back to https://www.sync.opera.com/ to see if it looks like all your stuff is there.

That should hopefully fix it. Note though that if you have other Operas with those unwanted bookmarks, you should do the same thing to those Operas just for good measure (or at least delete those unwanted bookmarks there before logging back into Sync).
