The "circumstances" leading to full-game removal were
1: Game sold well on Itch.
2: Dev realized he was losing Patreon income by actually selling the game he promised to sell. 
3: Dev added something to the game that made itch staff go "Uh... no."
4: Still no one's buying it on Steam and Patreon, but now he's got a scapegoat.

Yeah, you know all too well he's not doing ANYTHING for the game. Even his apology update was a screencap of old content. Nothing new at all, and there's NEVER gonna be.

That's a fun way of saying "I want you to keep paying me on Patreon for abandonware." No updates since 2022, continual promises of short-term updates that never come. He's just milking it now.
