What the actual FUCK is with all this sudden hatred of Troy Barrett and people literally making shit up about him and how Shane feels about him?!

Some quick facts:

1. Troy made ONE (1. One. Singular.) comment that was targeted toward Shane (and Ilya too) in Tough Guy. And Shane wasn’t even around to hear it, it was behind his back. Which doesn’t make it okay, but it’s wild to see lots of people claiming Troy “targeted Shane for years” and that Shane is aware of this. NOWHERE IS THIS EVER SAID OR EVEN IMPLIED

2. Never in canon is it ever said that Troy has used racial slurs. All we know is that he used homophobic slurs, and acted dickish in general. Does that mean he’s definitely never said anything racist? Of course not! Who knows what he or any character has said off page? Does it mean he has never canonically said anything racist despite many people wrongly insisting he has? YUP!

3. Troy has never claimed to want or even think he deserves forgiveness for his past actions. He’s tried to be better, he’s apologized to some people he’s hurt. But he never has expressed an expectation of forgiveness.

4. On Shane’s end, he’s never expressed feeling like Troy has ever personally attacked him or been racist toward him. He just is vaguely surprised that Ilya ends up being friends with him, and then expresses some brief jealousy because Troy is attractive and in close proximity to Ilya… and that’s it.

5. The ONLY direct interaction we have seen between Shane and Ilya comes near the end of TLG. Troy speaks kindly to Shane, hugging him and saying he hopes they can be friends. Shane is surprised by this, but not unpleasantly so, and even says “Definitely,” in response to Troy sharing his desire to be friends. And that’s it. No racial slur from Troy (since everyone seems to think he is going to start casually throwing those around when he speaks to Shane) and no anger or bad feelings from Shane.

I’m just trying to wrap my head around where all the vitriol toward Troy is coming from? It all sounds based on things that people are making up as headcanons but nothing from the actual source material.

It’s really fascinating to see how people can fall down a weird hate rabbit hole based on… *checks notes* Literally nothing from canon?

Fuckin’ wild, man.

i need Shane and Ilya to share the C in unrivalled for all the normal reasons (Shane fucking deserves captaincy still) but also for the chaos of them sharing anything.

they’re competing every practice for who gets the C next game. sometimes they tie so completely that Bood gets the C because they can’t agree who won

then, a younger player faces off against Haas for the puck and asks “so is who gets to be captian a sex thing?” and Haas just responds, completely deadpan, “yes,” and wins the face off

this circulates around the players in the league, and somehow makes it into twitter. twitter decides that the great hollanov top/bottom debate is solved by the C— whoever wears the C gets to be on top that night. they’re both masc, so it makes sense to them. it is canonized in public consciousness

Shane hates the speculation into their sex life, but ilya fucking loves it. he insists that he should get the A (even though he won) when they play Montreal and tells their players how he’s going to get dicked down by their former captain. he goes into graphic detail during face offs, saying Shane is going to plow him into the mattress

it’s crucial that ilya is 100% lying; who gets the C is about who gets to choose what they do, not anything else. they’re still strict top/bottom, but Shane would get zero respect if people knew that, so ilya lies.

sometimes they switch out the C in between periods during this, just to see what people come up with. at one point, ilya tells another player that when Bood has the C they have a list of people to hit up for threesomes. it’s perfect for ilya to effectively chirp people, and puts so much fake information out about their sex life that anyone who says Hollander only bottoms is laughed out of the room (“Roz has literally admitted he’s on bottom when he has the A, you’re just projecting Asian stereotypes onto Hollander)

  • we trade every six weeks
  • whoever is points leader gets to bottom (he says this after gaining two points over Shane)
  • we flip a coin. had it custom made from etsy
  • rock paper scissors best of three, winner tops
  • neither of us. we have a third guy for that. His name is Ian
  • Sex? What would JESUS think?
  • we put our names in a hat six times each and pick blindfolded
  • we have a reward system for it with stickers. like a chore chart.
  • top? bottom? you must be confused. we don’t have bunks, we share one bed.
  • it depends on what the horoscope says
  • in summer he bottoms, in winter I bottom, spring and fall we just hold hands
  • top? what is this word? sorry no English

Can somebody write a fanfic where Ilya’s Spotify gets leaked during the rose Landry era and it’s all sad. The internet then freaks out about who tf could’ve hurt notorious playboy Ilya rozanov

And eventually the internet moves on until a few years later (he’s in Ottawa at this point) somebody goes back to look and there’s a new playlist titled “Jane❤️” and it’s all sappy love songs and the internet once again freaks out about it

I think post Troy barret coming out but pre fan mail video rozanov would get questioned about if he feels weird sharing a locker room with a gay man

And he’d just be like “it’s not news to me” and the reporters would keep asking questions until eventually he says something along the lines of “I have known since he joined the league. I have great gaydar. I know about all the gay hockey players”

And then Twitter would cancel him so hard and he’d have to release a statement apologizing 😭
