We create games and programs on Pokitto, an open-source DIY handheld console, that runs on a tiny ARM-Cortex M0+. Fantasy consoles are limited by fantasy. Pokitto is actually limited by hardware: 36kB RAM, 256 kB program memory, 8-bit DAC.  Simple hardware makes it fun to program. No directX, no geegaws. Direct access to pure hardware, just like on a Commodore 64, Amiga 500 or GBA.
