Abstract

Vehicle transport trailers can be difficult and complex to load. Further, vehicle height on most trailers is restricted. The present invention provides a transport trailer (10) comprising: an elongated body (12) having spaced vertical supports (14) for vertical actuators (16), a lower deck (30) extending along and supported by the elongated body, and an upper deck (30) supported by the vertical actuators, the upper deck being movable along the vertical supports via the vertical actuators. In a preferred embodiment, the upper deck (30) can be lowered to a position to be substantially superimposed on top of the lower deck (20) by the vertical actuators to ease loading onto the upper deck. The spaced vertical supports, being fixed upright supports disposed spaced along each side of the trailer, with the upper deck being movable vertically along the vertical supports via the actuators, wherein the upper deck is lockable in a desired position along the vertical supports.

Claims (15)

The claims defining the invention are as follows:
1. A transport trailer comprising: an elongated body having spaced vertical supports, the vertical supports being fixed upright supports disposed spaced along each side of the trailer, a lower deck extending along and supported by the elongated body, and an upper deck supported by actuators, the upper deck being movable vertically along the vertical supports via the actuators, wherein the upper deck is lockable in a desired position along the vertical supports.
2. The trailer of claim 1 wherein the upper deck can be lowered to a position to be substantially superimposed on top of the lower deck by the actuators.
3. The trailer of claim 1 wherein the actuators are telescopic hydraulic cylinders and are aligned with the vertical supports.
4. The trailer of claim 1 wherein the vertical supports are disposed spaced along each side of the trailer with the lower deck and upper deck therebetween, wherein each vertical support has a corresponding aligned vertical support at the other side of the trailer.
5. The trailer of claim 1wherein the upper deck comprises a plurality of sections, wherein a corner of each section is supported by a respective actuator and vertical support.
6. The trailer of claim 1 wherein the upper deck comprises at least a front upper section, and a rear upper section, wherein the sections are movable independently of each other.
7. The trailer of claim 6 wherein the trailer further includes a headrack for providing storage space above a prime mover cabin.
8. The trailer of claim 7 wherein the front upper section comprises a movable platform which can be moved in the horizontal direction between the front upper section and the headrack.
9. The trailer of claim 8 wherein the headrack comprises drive means and locking means for the movable platform.
10. The trailer of claim 1 wherein the vertical supports comprise a series of spaced apertures, wherein the upper deck sections each include lock pins which are movable into and out of the apertures for locking the respective upper deck section into the desired vertical position along the respective vertical supports.
11. The trailer of claim 1 wherein the lower deck comprises a front lower section, a middle lower section and a rear lower section, wherein the middle lower section is movable vertically and starts from a lowered position.
12. The trailer of claim 11 wherein the middle lower section can be raised to join the rear lower section to the front lower section.
13. The trailer of claim 11wherein the middle lower section can be moved to its lowered position.
14. The trailer of claim 11 wherein the lower deck includes a movable second platform which is laid flat along the rear lower section.
15. The trailer of claim 14 wherein a front portion of the second platform can be raised and the second platform can be translated forward and backwards along the middle lower section and the rear lower section.
