Abstract

The invention relates to poultry feeds and feed premixes containing synergistically effective amounts of betaine hydrochloride (BCHl) and a phytase, provided in a ratio of about 0.5 to 5g BHCl per kg of feed : 100 to 5000 phytase unit (FTU) per kg of feed.

Claims (26)

1. A process for producing an animal feed including the step of: - combining a nutrient component including one or more of a carbohydrate, fat and protein with a phytase and betaine hydrochloride (BHCl), 5 wherein the BHCl and phytase are provided in a ratio of about 0.5 to 5g BHCl per kg of feed : 100 to 5000 phytase unit (FTU) per kg of feed; thereby producing the animal feed, and wherein the feed is a poultry feed.
2. The process of claim 1, wherein the starch content of the feed is not more than 270g per kg of feed. 10
3. The process of claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the protein content of the feed is from 150 to 250 g per kg of feed.
4. The process of any one of the preceding claims wherein the fat content of the feed is not more than 45g per kg of feed.
5. The process of any one of the preceding claims wherein the phytase is of bacterial 15 origin.
6. The process of claim 5, wherein the phytase has an amino acid sequence of an E.coli phytase.
7. The process of any one of claims 1-6, wherein the nutrient component does not include the following micronutrients as an additive or synthetic component: methionine, choline, lysine, 20 threonine and inorganic phosphate.
8. The process of any one of claims 1-7, wherein the feed is in the form of granules or pellets.
9. The process of any one of claims 1-8, wherein the phytase is provided in the feed in an amount of more than 1,000 FTU/kg to about 3,000 FTU/kg. 25
10. The process of claims 1-9, wherein the phytase is provided in the feed in an amount of about 500 FTU/kg to about 1,000 FTU/kg. 1003415979
11. The process of claims 1-10, wherein the BHCl is provided in the feed in an amount of more than 2g/kg to about 2.75 g/kg.
12. The process of any one of claims 1-11, wherein the phytase is provided in the feed in an amount of about 500 FTU/kg and the BHCl is provided in the feed in an amount of about 2g/kg. 5

A process for increasing the apparent metabolisable energy (AME) value of an animal feed including the steps of: providing an animal feed in the form of a nutrient component including one or more of carbohydrate, fat and protein, and a phytase; combining the animal feed with BHCl; 10 wherein the BHCl is provided in a ratio of ratio of about 0.5 to 5g BHCl per kg of feed : 100 to 5000 phytase unit (FTU) per kg of feed, wherein the feed is a poultry feed.
14. The process of claim 13, wherein the starch content of the feed is not more than 270g per kg of feed.
15. The process of claim 13 or claim 14, wherein the protein content of the feed is from 150 15 to 250 g per kg of feed.
16. The process of any one of the preceding claims wherein the fat content of the feed is not more than 45g per kg of feed.
17. The process of any one of the preceding claims wherein the phytase is of bacterial origin. 20
