Abstract
Existing balers have limited control of the baling process especially in relation to the density of the bale. Therefore the present includes a baler (1) connectable to a tractor (2) for providing round bales, comprises a frame (3) supported on a wheel (4) axle, a chamber (5) for receiving crops and for housing a formed bale whereby, the chamber has a fixed, predetermined size. A tailgate (6) is connected to the frame and is movable between a closed position, for cooperating with the frame (3) to delimit the chamber (5), and an open position, for discharging the formed bale. A conveying assembly, which delimits the chamber (5) for imparting a rotating movement to the crops contained in the chamber (5), and has a first portion provided in the frame (3) and a second portion provided in the tailgate (6). A cylinder-piston actuator (7), which includes a closing chamber (701) is connected to the frame (3) and to the tailgate (6) to move the tailgate (6) from the open position to the closed position, upon receiving an actuating fluid in the closing chamber (701). A binder (12), is configured for binding the formed bale with a fastening element. A control unit, is configured to generate an alert signal, wherein the baler comprises a pressure sensor (P1) for detecting a control signal representative of a pressure inside the closing chamber (701) of the cylinder-piston actuator (7), wherein the control unit is programmed for generating the alert signal as a function of the control signal. The cylinder-piston actuator (7) is a double effect actuator, which includes, further to the closing chamber (701), an opening chamber (702), which can be fed with the actuating fluid for commanding a movement of the tailgate (6) from the closed position to the open position. The cylinder-piston actuator (7) is a hydraulic actuator and wherein the baler (1) comprises a hydraulic circuit (8) including: - a first conduit (801) and a second conduit (802), which are selectively connectable to a pressure source and are in fluid communication with the closing chamber (701) and with the opening chamber (702) of the cylinder-piston actuator (7), respectively. A setting valve (806) which is connected between the first conduit (801) and the second conduit (802), is configured to allow a flow of the actuating fluid from the first conduit (801) to the second conduit (802), when a first pressure in the first conduit (801) exceeds a second pressure in the second conduit (802) of a predetermined first threshold value. A safety valve (807) which is connected between the first conduit (801) and the second conduit (802) is configured to allow a flow of the actuating fluid from the first conduit (801) to the second conduit (802), when the first pressure in the first conduit (801) exceeds the second pressure in the second conduit (802) of a predetermined second threshold value, wherein the second threshold value is higher than the first threshold value. A method for producing round bales in a baler connected to a tractor is also disclosed.
Claims (14)
1. A baler (1) connectable to a tractor (2) for ing round bales, comprising: - a frame (3) supported on a wheel (4) axle; - a chamber (5) for receiving crops and for g a formed bale, the chamber having a fixed, predetermined size; - a tailgate (6) connected to the frame and movable between a closed position, for cooperating with the frame (3) to delimit the chamber (5), and an open position, for discharging the formed bale; - a conveying assembly, which delimits the chamber (5) for imparting a rotating movement to the crops contained in the chamber (5), and has a first portion provided in the frame (3) and a second n ed in the tailgate (6); - a cylinder-piston actuator (7), which es a g chamber (701) and is connected to the frame (3) and to the tailgate (6) to move the tailgate (6) from the open on to the closed position, upon receiving an actuating fluid in the closing chamber (701); - a binder (12), configured for binding the formed bale with a fastening element; - a control unit, configured to generate an alert signal, wherein the baler ses a re sensor (P1) for detecting a control signal representative of a pressure inside the closing chamber (701) of the cylinder-piston actuator (7), wherein the control unit is programmed for generating the alert signal as a function of the control signal, wherein the cylinder-piston actuator (7) is a double effect actuator, which includes, further to the closing chamber (701), an opening chamber (702), which can be fed with the actuating fluid for commanding a movement of the tailgate (6) from the closed position to the open wherein the cylinder-piston actuator (7) is a hydraulic actuator and wherein the baler (1) comprises a hydraulic circuit (8) including: - a first conduit (801) and a second conduit (802), which are selectively connectable to a pressure source and are in fluid communication with the g chamber (701) and with the opening chamber (702) of the cylinder-piston actuator (7), respectively; - a setting valve (806) which is connected between the first conduit (801) and the second conduit (802), and is configured to allow a flow of the actuating fluid from the first conduit (801) to the second conduit (802), when a first pressure in the first conduit (801) exceeds a second re in the second conduit (802) of a predetermined first threshold value; and AH26(45703607_1):BJM - a safety valve (807) which is connected between the first conduit (801) and the second conduit (802) and is configured to allow a flow of the actuating fluid from the first t (801) to the second conduit (802), when the first pressure in the first conduit (801) s the second pressure in the second conduit (802) of a predetermined second threshold value, wherein the second threshold value is higher than the first threshold value.

The baler (1) of claim 1, wherein the hydraulic circuit (8) includes: - an operating valve (804), which is inserted in the first conduit (801) and is operable in an open position, for allowing the actuating fluid to flow from a pressure source (803) to the closing chamber (701), and in a closed position, for retaining the actuating fluid in the closing chamber (701); - a driver (805), connected to the operating valve (804) to force it in the open position, responsive to a pressure in the second conduit (802), and n the pressure sensor (P1) is in fluid communication with the first conduit (801), downstream of the operating valve (804).
3. The baler (1) of claim 2, wherein the setting valve (806) is connected upstream of the operating valve (804).

The baler (1) of claim 3, wherein the control unit is connected to the setting valve (806) to set the first threshold value in the setting valve (806) through an electrical signal, and is configured for ing the first threshold value from a plurality of memorized values, as a function of a setting parameter set by the user and representative of a typology of crop to be processed.
5. The baler (1) of any of the claims from 2 to 4, wherein the safety valve (807) is connected ream of the operating valve (804).
6. The baler (1) of any of the us claims, wherein the control unit is programmed for g a reference pressure value based on a user selection, and for comparing the control signal to the reference pressure value, to generate the alert signal depending on the reference re value being exceeded by the control signal.
7. The baler (1) of claim 6, comprising a user interface, which can be positioned on the tractor (2), wherein the l unit is programmed for displaying, in real time at the user AH26(45703607_1):BJM interface, graphical data representative of the control signal and/or of the reference pressure value.
8. A method for producing round bales in a baler (1) connected to a tractor (2), comprising the following steps: - moving, by feeding an actuating fluid to a closing r (701) of a er-piston actuator (7), a tailgate (6) to a closed position, where the tailgate cooperates with a frame (3) to form a chamber (5); - forming a bale in the chamber (5), by rotating crops received in the chamber (5), wherein the chamber (5) size remains fixed during the formation of the bale; - generating an alert signal, to provide the user with ation about an operation or status of the baler (1); - binding the formed bale with a fastening element; - moving the tailgate (6) to an open position, to discharge the bound bale, - detecting a control signal, representative of a pressure inside the closing chamber (701) of the cylinder-piston actuator (7), when the tailgate (6) is in the closed position, wherein the alert signal is generated as a function of the l signal, wherein the step of moving the tailgate to the open position is accomplished by feeding the actuating fluid to an opening chamber (702) of the cylinder-piston or (7), which is a double effect actuator, wherein the cylinder-piston actuator (7) is a hydraulic actuator and wherein the baler (1) comprises a hydraulic circuit (8) including: - a first conduit (801) and a second conduit (802), which are selectively connectable to a re source and are in fluid communication with the closing chamber (701) and with the opening chamber (702) of the cylinder-piston actuator (7), respectively; - a setting valve (806) which is connected between the first conduit (801) and the second conduit (802), wherein said setting valve (806) allows a flow of the ing fluid from the first conduit (801) to the second conduit (802), when a first pressure in the first conduit (801) exceeds a second pressure in the second conduit (802) of a predetermined first threshold value; and - a safety valve (807), which is connected between the first conduit (801) and the second conduit (802) to allow a flow of the actuating fluid from the first conduit (801) to the second conduit (802), when the first pressure in the first conduit (801) exceeds the second pressure in the second conduit (802) of a ermined second threshold value, wherein the second old value is higher than the first threshold value. The method of claim 8, further comprising the following steps: - ing a user selection representative of a desired density for the formed bale; - deriving a reference pressure value based on the user selection, wherein the alert signal is generated when the control signal s the reference re value.
10. The method of claim 9, comprising a step of displaying, in real time at a user interface, graphical data representative of the control signal, and/or of the reference pressure value.

The method of any of the claims from 8 to 10, wherein, in the step of moving the tailgate (6) to the closed on, the actuating fluid is fed to the g chamber (701) through an operating valve (804) , which is configured for retaining the actuating fluid in the closing chamber (701), and wherein the pressure inside the closing chamber (701) is detected by measuring a pressure of a first conduit (801) which puts in fluid communication the operating valve (804) and the closing chamber (701).
12. The method of claim 11, wherein the operating valve (804) is forced to an open on, for releasing the actuating fluid from the closing chamber (701), in se to a pressure of the actuating fluid in the opening chamber (702).
13. The method of any of the claims from 8 to 12, wherein, in the step of moving the tailgate (6) to the closed position, the actuating fluid is fed to the closing chamber (701) until a setting configuration is reached, as a function of a first threshold value.
14. The method of claim 13, comprising a step of receiving a setting parameter set by the user and representative of a gy of crop to be processed, wherein the first threshold value is selected from a plurality of memorized values, in response to the setting parameter.
