Abstract
Disclosed herein are methods for associating a genetic variant with improved visual acuity in patients with wet macular degeneration who have previously been treated with a VEGF inhibitor for about one year, wherein the genetic variant is rs12148845 or rs12148100. Also disclosed is the treatment of these patients with a VEGF inhibitor in an amount of about 2mg quarterly.
Claims (11)
1. Use of a vascular elial growth factor (VEGF) tor in the cture of a medicament for the treatment of a wet macular degeneration patient, the patient having previously been treated with the VEGF inhibitor for about one year, the patient having one or more genetic variants determined by performing or having performed a genotype assay on a DNA sample obtained from the patient, wherein the one or more genetic variants are single nucleotide polymorphisms rs12148845 and 8100, and wherein the VEGF inhibitor is formulated for intravitreal administration to the patient in an amount of about 2 mg quarterly after the about one year previous treatment with the VEGF inhibitor.
2. The use of claim 1, wherein the single nucleotide polymorphism is rs12148845.
3. The use of claim 1, wherein the single nucleotide rphism is 8100.
4. The use of any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the VEGF inhibitor is ranibizumab.
5. The use of any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein the VEGF inhibitor is aflibercept.
6. A method of associating a genetic variant with ed visual acuity in a wet macular degeneration patient having previously been treated with a VEGF inhibitor for about one year, the method comprising: performing a genotype assay on a DNA sample obtained from the patient to determine the presence or absence of the c variant associated with improved visual acuity, wherein the genetic variant is rs12148845 and rs12148100, wherein when the t has the genetic variant, the patient is a candidate for intravitreal administration with a VEGF inhibitor in an amount of about 2 mg quarterly.
7. The method of claim 6, wherein the genetic variant is rs12148845.
8. The method of claim 6, wherein the genetic variant is rs12148100.
9. The method of any one of claims 6 to 8, wherein the VEGF inhibitor is ranibizumab.
10. The method of any one of claims 6 to 8, wherein the VEGF inhibitor is aflibercept.
11. The method of any one of claims 6 to 10, n the improved visual acuity is a Gain of 15 letters. ”Hi/8 gm gmmgmnmanm m ?wmamé 3m ??w 3% ”mam”. 3mm a“ msmwamn? émmwm gamma: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
