Abstract

slurry transport system that includes a slurry pump, and a component located upstream and near the pump suction entrance, where the component comprises an exterior frame, an interior liner for slurry flow, and a ramp device on the lower surface of the liner to direct slurry upward. The component re-suspends coarse solid particulates, ensuring a more uniform slurry concentration at the pump suction entrance and reducing pump wear.

Claims (14)

1. A slurry transport system comprising a slurry pump and a component, said ent being configured for directing slurry flow in an upward direction away from a 5 lower interior surface of said component, the component comprising: an or frame; an interior liner disposed within an interior of said exterior frame, said interior liner operable for accommodating travel of a slurry flow therethrough; and a ramp device disposed upon a lower surface of said interior liner, said ramp device 10 configured for directing slurry flow within said interior liner in an upward direction away from said lower surface of said interior liner, wherein the component is located upstream of and in the proximity of a pump suction entrance and being configured for re-suspending coarse solid particulates away from a lower portion of said slurry flow to provide a more m flow concentration at 15 the pump suction entrance of the slurry pump and thereby reducing wear associated with said slurry pump.
2. The slurry transport system according to Claim 1, wherein the ramp device ses an upwardly sloped and concave section which is tapered in its width from front 20 to rear to direct slurry flow upwardly and inwardly towards a udinal centerline of the component.
3. The slurry transport system according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, wherein said ramp device is affixed to said lower surface of said interior liner by suitable fastening means.
4. The slurry transport system according to any one of Claims 1-2, wherein said ramp device is integrally formed together with said interior liner from the same material.
5. The slurry transport system according to any one of Claims 1-4, wherein said ramp 30 device is configured for ing slurry flow within said or liner in an upward and inward ion away from said lower surface of said interior liner.
6. The slurry transport system according to any one of Claims 1-5, wherein said interior liner is constructed of a material selected from the group ting of metal, metal alloy, chrome white iron, steel, ceramics, rubber, polyurethane, plastic, elastomeric and polymeric materials.
7. The slurry transport system according to any one of Claims 1-6, n said ramp device is constructed of a al selected from the group consisting of metal, metal alloy, chrome white iron, steel, ceramics, rubber, polyurethane, steel, plastic, elastomeric and polymeric materials.
8. The slurry transport system according to any one of Claims 1-7, wherein said ramp device comprises an upwardly inclined section operable for ing slurry flow in an upward ion away from said lower surface of said interior liner. 15
9. The slurry transport system according to any one of Claims 1-7, wherein said ramp device comprises an upwardly inclined and concave section operable for directing slurry flow in an upward direction away from said lower e of said interior liner.
10. The slurry transport system according to any one of Claims 1-7, wherein said ramp 20 device comprises: a base having a general curvature substantially ng a curvature of a portion of said interior liner upon which it is disposed; and an upwardly ed section operable for directing slurry flow in an upward direction away from said lower surface of said interior liner.
11. The slurry transport system ing to any one of Claims 1-7, wherein said ramp device comprises: a base having a general curvature substantially matching a curvature of a portion of said interior liner upon which it is disposed; and 30 an upwardly inclined and concave section operable for directing slurry flow in an upward direction away from said lower surface of said interior liner.
12. The slurry transport system according to any one of Claims 1-7, wherein said ramp device comprises: a base having a general curvature substantially matching a curvature of a portion of said interior liner upon which it is disposed; 5 an upwardly inclined section operable for directing slurry flow in an upward direction away from said lower surface of said interior liner; and a pair of substantially vertical guide sections disposed on opposite sides of said upwardly inclined section for r ing slurry flow in an upward direction away from said lower surface of said interior liner.
13. The slurry transport system ing to any one of Claims 1-7, wherein said ramp device comprises: a base having a general curvature substantially matching a curvature of a portion of said interior liner upon which it is ed; 15 an upwardly inclined and concave n operable for directing slurry flow in an upward direction away from said lower surface of said interior liner; and a pair of substantially al guide sections disposed on opposite sides of said upwardly ed section for r directing slurry flow in an upward direction away from said lower surface of said interior liner.
14. A method of ng lower interior surface wear at the suction section of a slurry pump in a slurry transport system comprising: providing one or more ramp devices adapted for directing slurry flow in an upward direction away from a lower interior surface of said slurry transport system; 25 disposing said one or more ramp devices upon one or more locations upstream of and in the proximity of the pump suction entrance along said lower interior surface of said slurry transport system; and orting slurry through the slurry transport system across said one or more ramp devices, 30 whereby the slurry has a more uniform flow concentration at the pump suction entrance of the slurry pump.
