Abstract
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a novel food material that is efficacious in improving skin conditions. Provided is a composition for improving skin conditions, said composition comprising a bacterium belonging to the genus Lactococcus as an active ingredient. As an example of the bacterium belonging to the genus Lactococcus, Lactococcus lactis can be cited. Examples of the skin conditions to be improved include skin conditions worsened by exposure to light such as reddish skin and skin with reduced moisture content. Disclosed is use of a Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis JCM5805 for the manufacture of a medicament for therapeutically treating, preventing, or improving a deteriorated skin condition with photodermatosis and a non-therapeutic method for improving skin conditions by feeding or administering an effective amount of Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis JCM5805.
Claims (14)
1. Use of a Lactococcus bacterium or a composition comprising a Lactococcus bacterium for the manufacture of a medicament for therapeutically treating, preventing, or improving a deteriorated skin condition with photodermatosis in a subject, wherein the Lactococcus bacterium is Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis JCM5805.
2. The use according to claim 1, wherein the photodermatosis comprises solar dermatitis, sunburn, photoaging, or photosensitivity.
3. The use according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the skin condition is a skin condition deteriorated by light exposure.
4. The use according to claim 3, wherein the skin condition deteriorated by light exposure is a decrease in skin moisture content and/or an increase in skin redness.
5. The use according to any one of claims 1 to 4, wherein the Lactococcus bacterium is in the form of a dead bacterium.
6. The use according to any one of claims 1 to 5, wherein the medicament comprises an effective daily intake amount of the Lactococcus bacterium for a human.
7. The use according to claim 6, wherein the effective daily intake amount for a human ranges from 0.5 to 1000 mg on the basis of dried bacterial powder.
8. The use according to claim 7, wherein the effective daily intake amount for a human ranges from 1×10 to 1×10 on the basis of the number of bacteria.
9. The use according to any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein the medicament is in the form of a unit package.
10. A non-therapeutic method for improving a skin condition, comprising feeding or administering an effective amount of a Lactococcus bacterium or a composition comprising the same to a subject in need thereof, wherein the Lactococcus bacterium is Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis JCM5805.
11. The method according to claim 10, wherein the skin condition is a skin condition deteriorated by light exposure.
12. The method according to claim 11, wherein the skin condition deteriorated by light exposure is a decrease in skin moisture content and/or an increase in skin redness.
13. The method according to any one of claims 10 to 12, which comprises the Lactococcus bacterium in the form of a dead bacterium.
14. The method according to any one of claims 10 to 13, wherein the Lactococcus bacterium or composition comprising the same is in a food composition.
