Abstract

Devices for the repair of a torn or injured ligament or tendon are provided. The device provides multiple scaffolds which may be positioned along a suture or other device such that they are moveable with respect to one another or the injured tissue. Slow injury recovery is hereby addressed.

Claims (20)

Claims
1. A device for ligament or tendon repair sing: a suture having a length; 5 a containment device with multiple distinct biodegradable scaffolds which are positioned along the length of the suture and are able to slide along the suture wherein the scaffolds are hydrophilic.
2. The device of claim 1, wherein the scaffolds are beads.
3. The device of claim 1, wherein the device for ligament or tendon repair comprises 10 2-30 scaffolds.
4. A kit, comprising the device of any one of claims 1-3 and further comprising instructions for surgical repair of a ligament or tendon using the device.
5. The device of claim 3 wherein the scaffolds are 1-20 mm in length.
6. The device of claim 5, n the scaffolds are compressible expandable 15 scaffolds.
7. The device of claim 5, wherein the scaffolds are collagen sponges.
8. The device of claim 7, wherein the en sponges comprise type I soluble collagen and wherein the collagen s are prepared from a on of solubilized collagen in a concentration of greater than 5 and less than or equal to 50 mg/ml. 20
9. The device of claim 7, wherein the collagen sponges comprise type I soluble collagen and n the collagen sponges are prepared from a solution of solubilized collagen in a concentration of greater than 50 and less than or equal to 500 mg/ml.
10. The device of claim 5, wherein each of the scaffolds in the set are the same.
11. The device of claim 5, wherein at least one of the scaffolds in the set is different 25 from the other lds in the set.
12. The device of claim 11, wherein the at least one different scaffold has a different size than the other scaffolds.
13. The device of claim 12, wherein the at least one different scaffold is larger than the other scaffolds.
14. The device of claim 12, n the at least one different scaffold is smaller than the other scaffolds. 5
15. The device of claim 11, wherein the at least one different scaffold has a different shape than the other lds.
16. The device of claim 12, wherein the at least one different scaffold is shaped as a sphere.
17. The device of claim 12, wherein the at least one different ld is shaped as a 10 cylinder.
18. The device of claim 11, wherein the at least one different scaffold is comprised of a different biodegradable polymer than the other scaffolds.
19. The device of claim 17, wherein the scaffolds are comprised of collagen.
20. The device of claim 17, wherein the scaffolds are comprised of a non-collagen 15 polymer.
