Abstract

container (3000) having an outer shell (3002) formed of water-resistant material, a series of loops (3024) on the front, and an opening (3030) in the top of the container which forms a rectangular shape when the opening is fully open. The container has a closure mechanism that has a flap (3014) on the back of the outer shell which includes a reinforced polymetric plate (not shown), a hook fastener (3016), and a folding magnetic collar on the perimeter of the opening (3030). The folding magnetic collar has magnetic strips on the front (3048), back (3056), left (3062, 3064), and right (3072, 3074) sides of the collar, and central hinges on the left (3034) and right (3032) sides. When the folding magnetic collar is closed, the hinges on the left and right sides fold into the opening, allowing the magnetic strips on either side of the hinges, and the magnetic strips on the front and back of the collar, to contact and magnetically couple. The waterproof container incorporates a folding magnetic closure mechanism integrated into the perimeter to seal the opening.

Claims

We Claim:

1. A container, comprising: an outer shell formed from a water-resistant al, and having a front portion, a back portion, side portions, and a base portion, the outer shell further comprising: a series of webbing loops coupled to an outer surface of the front portion; an g at a top of the container extending into a storage compartment, the opening having a substantially rectilinear geometry when fully open, and having a front, a back, a first side, and a second side; a closure mechanism, further comprising: a flap, extending from the back portion of the outer shell above the opening, wherein the flap includes a rcing polymeric plate; a hook fastener element, rotatably coupled to the flap, and configured to be removably coupled to a selected webbing loop, from the series of webbing loops; a folding magnetic collar ured to be folded between an open configuration and a closed configuration to seal the opening, the folding magnetic collar further comprising: a front collar member ing between a first end and a second end of the front of the opening, the front collar member having a magnetic surface facing the back of the opening; a back collar member extending between a first end and a second end of the back of the opening, the back collar member having a ic surface facing the front of the opening ; a first side collar member ing along the first side of the g, and hingedly coupled to the first end of the front collar member and to the first end of the back collar member, the first side collar member further comprising a first center hinge separating a first magnetic element and a second magnetic element; and a second side collar member extending along the second side of the opening, and hingedly coupled to the second end of the front collar member and to the second end of the back collar member, the second side collar member further comprising a second center hinge separating a third magnetic element and a fourth ic element, wherein when the opening is fully open, the front collar member, the back collar member, the first side collar member, and the second side collar member are positioned in a substantially rectilinear uration, wherein when folded, the first center hinge of the first side collar member hinges and the first and second magnetic elements of the first side collar member are brought into contact with one another, wherein when folded, the second center hinge of the second side collar member hinges and the third and fourth magnetic elements of the second side collar member are brought into contact with one another, and wherein when the first center hinge of the first side collar member and the second center hinge of the second side collar member are folded, the magnetic surface of the front collar member is brought into t with and magnetically coupled to the magnetic surface of the back collar member.

2. The container of claim 1, wherein the reinforcing polymeric plate includes a ic e that is configured to magnetically couple to the magnetic surface of the front collar member when the container is in a closed configuration.

3. The container of claim 1, further comprising a handle coupled to the back portion of the outer shell.

6. The container of claim 5, further comprising an insulating layer positioned in between the outer shell and the inner liner, the insulating layer providing tion for the storage compartment.

8. The container of claim 6, wherein the insulating layer floats between the inner liner and the outer shell.

9. The container of claim 6, n the ting layer is attached to at least one of the inner liner or the outer shell.

10. The container of claim 1, wherein the outer shell comprises two or more subpanels that are welded together.

11. The ner of claim 1, wherein the closure ism is ured to be substantially waterproof and airtight when in the closed configuration.

12. The container of claim 1, wherein the first and second center hinges of the first and second side collar members comprise polymeric flexure elements.

13. The container of claim 1, wherein the magnetic e of the front collar member, the magnetic surface of the back collar member, the first and second magnetic elements of the first side collar member, and the third and fourth magnetic elements of the second side collar member each comprise a single magnet element.

14. The container of claim 1, wherein the magnetic e of the front collar member, the magnetic surface of the back collar member, the first and second magnetic elements of the first side collar member, and the third and fourth magnetic elements of the second side collar member each comprise a series of multiple magnets embedded in a flexible substrate.

15. The container of claim 1, wherein the hook fastener element includes an aperture configured to receive and hold the selected webbing loop, and a recessed channel extending along the aperture.
