Abstract

food product cutting system (100) includes a food product carrier (102) for carrying food product (200) circumferentially around an axis of rotation (106), where the food product carrier (102) includes one or more food cutters (104) each having a knife (108) and a corresponding pusher (110). Each knife (108) is for receiving and engaging with food product (200), and each pusher (110) is slidably coupled with a knife (108) and movable for pushing food product (200) out of engagement with the food cutter (104). The food product cutting system (100) also includes a track (128) oriented generally circularly with respect to the food product carrier (102). The track (128) is arranged at varying radial distances from the axis of rotation (106) and coupled with one or more followers (130). Each follower (130) is connected to a corresponding pusher (110). In operation, food product (200) moved into the knife (108) of a food cutter (104) and carried around the axis of rotation (106) is incrementally pushed out of engagement with the food cutter (104) by the corresponding pusher (110).

Claims (15)

1. A food t cutting system for g vegetable food product first along an axis of the food product and then at least generally perpendicularly to the axis of the food product, the food product cutting system comprising: a food product carrier for ng the food product circumferentially around an axis of rotation, the food t carrier including one or more food cutters each having a knife and a corresponding pusher facing radially outward from the axis of rotation, the knife for receiving and engaging with food product, the pusher ly coupled with the knife and radially movable for pushing food product out of ment with the food cutter; a track oriented generally circularly with respect to the food t carrier and about the axis of rotation, the track arranged at varying radial distances from the axis of rotation and coupled with one or more followers, each one or more of the followers connected to a corresponding pusher for pushing the food product, where food t moved into the knife of one of the food cutters and carried around the axis of rotation is gradually pushed out of engagement with the food cutter by the corresponding pusher; and a slicing knife ed in a generally tangential orientation with respect to the one or more food cutters for slicing the food product as the food product carrier rotates and the food product is gradually pushed out of engagement with the food cutter.
2. The food product cutting system as recited in claim 1, further comprising a food product supply device for dispensing food product radially into engagement with the one or more food cutters.
3. The food product cutting system as recited in claim 2, wherein the food product supply device comprises a tapered tube configured to e and deliver food product from a water-fed product stream.
4. The food product cutting system as recited in claim 1, wherein the knife comprises a spiral knife.
5. The food t cutting system as recited in claim 1, wherein the pusher comprises an ejector plate.
6. The food product cutting system as recited in claim 1, wherein the follower comprises a cam follower engaged with the track.
7. The food product cutting system as recited in claim 1, further comprising a chute for ing cut food product from the food t carrier and the slicing knife.
8. The food product cutting system as recited in any one of claims 1 through 7, wherein: the one or more food cutters is a plurality of the food cutters; and the one or more followers is a plurality of the followers.
9. A method for cutting vegetable food t along an axis of the food t and then at least generally perpendicularly to the axis of the food product, the method sing: carrying, by a food product carrier, a food cutter circumferentially around an axis of rotation, the food cutter having a knife and a pusher facing radially outward from the axis of receiving, by the knife, the food product, the food product received radially into engagement with the food cutter along the axis of the food product; carrying, by the food cutter, the food product circumferentially around the axis of rotation; lly pushing, by the pusher, the food product out of engagement with the food cutter as the food product is carried around the axis of rotation, the pusher slidably coupled with the knife and ly movable with respect to the axis of rotation; and slicing, by a slicing knife, the food product in a generally tangential orientation with respect to the food cutter and at least generally perpendicularly to the axis of the food product as the food product r rotates and the food product is gradually pushed out of engagement with the food cutter.
10. The method as recited in claim 9, wherein gradually pushing, by the pusher, the food product out of engagement with the food cutter comprises engaging the pusher with a track oriented lly circularly with respect to the food product carrier and about the axis of rotation, the track arranged at varying radial distances from the axis of rotation and d with a follower, the follower connected to the pusher for pushing the food product.
11. The method as recited in claim 9, wherein the knife comprises a spiral knife.
12. The method as recited in claim 9, wherein the pusher comprises an ejector plate.
13. The method as recited in claim 9, wherein the follower ses a cam follower engaged with the track.
14. The method as recited in claim 9, further comprising receiving, by a chute, cut food product from the food t carrier and the slicing knife.
15. A food product cutting system substantially as herein described with reference to any one of the embodiments illustrated in the accompanying
