Abstract

catheter assembly with a catheter hub connected to a needle shield is disclosed. The needle shield is arranged for enclosing the tip of the needle in the needle shield once it is withdrawn from the catheter. A clip (710) is mounted in the needle shield and various embodiments of the needle shield and clip are disclosed. In one embodiment of the invention the clip includes a wall (740, 742) with a barb (726) for attachment to the needle shield. The wall (740 or 742) is arranged perpendicular to the needle axis in use.

Claims (6)

1. A catheter assembly comprising: a catheter; a needle disposed in the catheter; a catheter hub connected to the catheter and enclosing the needle; a needle shield configured to be connected to the catheter hub; a clip disposed in the needle shield; wherein the clip includes a first leg, a second leg and at least one of a front wall and a rear wall, the at least one of the front wall and the rear wall including a barb for mounting to the needle shield; and the at least one of the front wall and the rear wall is perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the needle; and the at least one of the front wall and the rear wall extends to a position between a plane defined by a linear portion of the first leg and a plane defined by a linear portion of the second leg.
2. The catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein the at least one of the front wall and rear wall includes a hole to allow the needle to pass through.
3. A catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein the at least one of the front wall and the rear wall is disposed in a position proximal or distal to the first leg and the second leg in the longitudinal axis of the needle.
4. The catheter assembly of claim 1, wherein the clip includes a top wall bent inward from the second leg at approximately 80 degrees. ~ 33 ~ MARKED-UP COPY
5. The catheter assembly of claim 4, wherein a rear portion of the top wall is bent approximately 90 degrees to form the rear wall.
