Abstract

Provided is a window stay comprising a frame plate (2) configured to attach to a window frame, a sash plate (3) configured to attach to a window sash, the sash plate including a raised section (500). A carriage (4) is configured to slide on the frame plate and a connecting element (5) connects the carriage to the sash plate. The carriage comprises a carriage body, a latching mechanism configured to, in a latched position, engage with the frame plate to lock the carriage on the frame plate, and, in an unlatched position, allow the carriage to slide on the frame plate, the latching mechanism including a button (502). The button (502) of the latching mechanism of the carriage is configured to interact with the raised section (500) of the sash plate to return the latching mechanism into the latched position as the sash plate closes over the carriage. The window stay as configured with the auto-latching feature removes potential risk to the user and damage to the window sash, frame and stay by unexpected movement of the window if left unlatched.

Claims (10)

1. A window stay comprising: a frame plate configured to attach to a window frame; a sash plate configured to attach to a window sash, the sash plate including a raised section; 5 a carriage configured to slide on the frame plate; and a connecting element connecting the carriage to the sash plate; the carriage comprising: a carriage body; a latching mechanism configured to, in a latched position, engage with the frame plate 10 to lock the carriage on the frame plate, and, in an unlatched position, allow the carriage to slide on the frame plate, the latching mechanism including a button; and wherein the button of the latching mechanism of the carriage is configured to interact with the raised section of the sash plate to return the latching mechanism into the latched position as the sash plate closes over the carriage. 15
2. The window stay as claimed in claim 1 wherein when a window is closed the sash plate closes over the carriage.

The window stay as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 wherein the latching mechanism comprises a latching element and a stepped recess in the frame plate, and the latching element is configured to slide in an axis parallel to a longitudinal axis of the frame plate between the latched position and 20 the unlatched position.
4. The window stay as claimed in claim 3 wherein the button is movably connected with the latching element.
5. The window stay as claimed in claim 4 wherein the raised section is configured to push the button into the latched position as the sash plate closes over the carriage. 25
6. The window stay as claimed in claim 4 or claim 5 wherein the raised section is raised toward the carriage.
7. The window stay as claimed in claim 4 or claim 5 wherein the button slides transverse to a direction of carriage sliding between the latched position and the unlatched position.
8. The window stay as claimed in claim 7 wherein the carriage recess is shaped to interact with a feature of the button to bias the button toward the latched position. 5
9. The window stay as claimed in any one of claims 4 to 8 wherein the latching element is springily connected to the button such that the latching element is movable axially away and towards from the carriage.
10. The window stay as claimed in any one of claims 4 to 9 wherein the button comprises a deformable section configured to interact with the raised section.
