Abstract

The present disclosure provides an apparatus for determining a depth of a burn wound, said apparatus comprising a pair of electrodes capable of forming a capacitive sensor that is configured to measure a capacitance of a region of tissue, a drive circuit, a processor, and a non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions that, perform the steps of receiving said measured capacitance from said capacitive sensor via said drive circuit, comparing said information value to a data array comprising pairs of capacitances and depths of burns, and determining the depth of said burn wound associated with said measured capacitance information.

Claims (7)

WE CLAIM:
1. An apparatus for determining a depth of a burn wound, said apparatus comprising: a pair of electrodes capable of forming a tive sensor that is configured to measure a capacitance of a region of tissue proximate to said pair of electrodes, a drive circuit electronically coupled to said capacitive sensor, a processor electronically coupled to said drive circuit, and a non-transitory er-readable medium electronically coupled to said processor and comprising instructions stored thereon that, when executed on said processor, perform the steps receiving information regarding said measured capacitance from said tive sensor via said drive circuit, comparing said information to a data array comprising capacitances associated with depths of burns, wherein pairs of capacitances and depths of burns are made, n each pair comprises a single capacitance and its corresponding depth of burn, and ining the depth of said burn wound associated with said measured capacitance.
2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said pair of electrodes comprises a center electrode nded by a ring electrode.
3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said pair of electrodes are a pair of virtual electrodes, each l electrode of said pair comprising a plurality of electrodes coupled together to form said virtual electrode.
4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said pair of electrodes are embedded on a flexible substrate.
5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said pair of electrodes are embedded on a rigid ate.
6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein said instructions further comprise the step of transmitting said information to a remote device selected from the group consisting of a computer, a , a mobile device, and a wearable . 46335476_1

The apparatus of claim 1, wherein: said instructions further se the step of ting each measured capacitance to an associated sub-epidermal moisture (SEM) value, said data array comprises SEM values associated with depths of burns, said step of comparing said information to said data array comprises comparing said SEM value to said data array sing SEM values associated with depth of burns, wherein pairs of SEM values and depths of burns are made, wherein each pair comprises a single SEM value and its corresponding depth of burn, and said step of determining the depth of said burn wound comprises identifying the depth of said burn wound associated with said SEM value.
