Abstract

injection device includes a vial, a piston movable within the vial, a needle movable from a retracted to a deployed configuration and configured to come into fluid communication with the medicament in the vial, a first housing portion including a motor to drive the piston and a second housing portion including an electronics board having a controller. The second housing portion is configured to transition between a first configuration of being decoupled from the first housing portion to a second configuration of being coupled to the first housing portion, forming an electrical connection between the motor and the electronics board. The separable nature of the housing portions allow the injection device to be assembled and disassembled easily when maintenance or refilling of medicament in the vial is required and also prevents problems of loose wires within the device, improving the structural integrity of the injection device.

Claims (17)

THE CLAIMS NG THE INVENTION ARE AS FOLLOWS:
1. An ion , comprising: a vial configured to contain a medicament; a piston configured to move within the vial; a needle movable from a retracted uration to a deployed configuration and configured to come into fluid communication with the medicament in the vial; a first g portion including a motor configured to drive the piston; a second housing n including an electronics board having a controller, wherein the second housing portion is configured to transition from a first configuration in which the second housing portion is decoupled from the first housing portion to a second configuration in which the second housing portion is coupled to the first housing portion; wherein upon transition from the first configuration to the second configuration, an electrical connection is contemporaneously formed between the motor and the electronics board.
2. The ion device of claim 1, wherein the first housing portion includes a spring contact electrically coupled to the motor.
3. The injection device of claim 1, wherein the motor includes a spring contact.
4. The injection device of any one of claims 2-3, wherein the second housing portion includes a contact pad electrically coupled to the electronics board, wherein upon transition from the first configuration to the second uration, an electrical connection is formed n the spring contact and the contact pad.
5. The injection device of any one of claims 2-3, wherein the electronics board includes a contact pad, wherein upon transition from the first uration to the second configuration, an electrical connection is formed between the spring contact and the contact pad.
6. The injection device of any one of the preceding claims, wherein the ical connection between the motor and the electronics board is formed without a wire.
7. The injection device of any one of the preceding claims, wherein transition from the first configuration to the second uration the vial is configured to be coupled to the first housing portion.
8. The injection device of claim 7, wherein the vial is filled with the medicament during transition from the first configuration to the second configuration.
9. The injection device of any one of the preceding claims, wherein during transition from the first configuration to the second configuration the needle is configured to be coupled to the second housing portion.
10. The injection device of any one of the ing claims, wherein the first housing n and the second housing portion are configured to snap together.
11. A method of assembling an injection device including a vial configured to contain a medicament, a piston configured to move within the vial, a needle movable from a ted configuration to a ed configuration and configured to come into fluid ication with the medicament in the vial, a first housing portion including a motor configured to drive the piston, a second housing portion including an electronics board having a controller, the method sing: coupling the first housing portion and the second housing portion together, wherein upon coupling of the first housing portion and the second g portion, an electrical connection is contemporaneously formed between the motor and the electronics board.
12. The method of claim 11, wherein the first housing portion includes a spring contact electrically coupled to the motor, n the second housing portion includes a contact pad electrically coupled to the electronics board, the method further comprising: g an electrical connection between the spring contact and the contact pad.
13. The method of any one of claims 11-12, wherein ng the first housing portion and the second housing portion together includes snapping the first housing portion to the second housing portion.
14. The method of any one of claims 11-13, further comprising: filling, before coupling the first housing portion and the second housing portion together, the vial with the medicament.
15. The method of claim 14, further comprising: coupling the vial to the first housing portion before coupling the first housing portion and the second housing portion together.
16. The ion device of any one of claims 1-10, n the vial is ed between the first housing portion and the second housing portion.
17. The method of any one of claims 11-15, wherein the vial is enclosed between the first housing portion and the second housing portion.
