Abstract
The invention concerns an apparatus comprising an intraocular pseudophakic contact lens comprising an optical lens formed of a lens material and multiple haptics radially extending from a peripheral edge of the optical lens and configured to be inserted under an anterior leaflet of a capsular wall in an eye in order to capture and confine the haptics under the anterior leaflet, the haptics comprising the lens material, wherein anterior surfaces of the haptics are configured to contact an inner capsular wall surface at the anterior leaflet, the anterior surface of each haptic continuous with an anterior surface of the optical lens, wherein posterior surfaces of the haptics comprise ridges configured to contact at least one edge of an artificial intraocular lens and capture the artificial intraocular lens between the ridges, at least a portion of the posterior surface of each haptic positioned below a posterior surface of the optical lens, and wherein the optical lens is multi-focal.
Claims (24)
1. An apparatus comprising: an intraocular pseudophakic t lens comprising: an optical lens formed of a lens material; and 5 multiple haptics radially extending from a peripheral edge of the optical lens and configured to be inserted under an anterior leaflet of a capsular wall in an eye in order to capture and confine the haptics under the anterior leaflet, the haptics comprising the lens material; wherein anterior surfaces of the haptics are ured to contact an inner capsular 10 wall surface at the anterior leaflet, the anterior surface of each haptic continuous with an anterior surface of the optical lens; wherein posterior surfaces of the haptics comprise ridges configured to contact at least one edge of an artificial intraocular lens and capture the artificial intraocular lens between the ridges, at least a portion of the posterior surface of each haptic positioned below a posterior 15 surface of the optical lens; and wherein the optical lens is multi-focal.
2. The apparatus of Claim 1, wherein the haptics are configured to couple the cular pseudophakic contact lens to different types of artificial intraocular lenses.
3. The apparatus of Claim 1, further comprising: at least one drug-eluting device located on the intraocular pseudophakic contact lens and configured to deliver at least one medication. 25
4. The tus of Claim 1, wherein the intraocular pseudophakic contact lens is configured to maintain the l lens above the anterior surface of the artificial intraocular lens.
5. The apparatus of Claim 1, wherein the anterior surfaces of the haptics are 30 textured.
6. The apparatus of Claim 1, n the intraocular pseudophakic t lens further comprises at least one pin ing rd from the optical lens or the haptics, 1004885712 the at least one pin configured to rest on or pierce the artificial intraocular lens.
7. The apparatus of Claim 1, wherein: each haptic comprises an inner portion and an outer portion; 5 the inner portion of each haptic is positioned between the l lens and the outer portion of the ; and the inner portion of each haptic projects outward and posteriorly from the optical lens.
8. The apparatus of Claim 7, wherein, for each haptic, the ridge is defined where 10 a larger thickness of the outer portion of the haptic meets a smaller thickness of the inner portion of the haptic.
9. The apparatus of Claim 1, wherein the ridge of each haptic comprises a lip projecting from the ridge and extending inward from the ridge.
10. The apparatus of Claim 1, wherein the l lens is configured to at least partially correct a residual refractive error in the eye, the al tive error comprising a refractive error that exists in the eye after tation of the artificial intraocular lens in the eye.
11. The tus of Claim 1, wherein the intraocular pseudophakic contact lens comprises at least three haptics extending radially from the optical lens.
12. A system comprising: 25 an artificial intraocular lens; and an intraocular pseudophakic contact lens comprising: an optical lens formed of a lens material; and le haptics radially extending from a eral edge of the optical lens and configured to be inserted under an anterior leaflet of a capsular wall in an eye in 30 order to capture and confine the haptics under the anterior leaflet, the haptics comprising the lens material; wherein anterior es of the haptics are configured to contact an inner capsular wall surface at the anterior leaflet, the anterior surface of each haptic continuous with an 1004885712 anterior surface of the optical lens; wherein posterior surfaces of the haptics comprise ridges configured to contact at least one edge of the cial intraocular lens and capture the artificial intraocular lens between the ridges, at least a portion of the posterior surface of each haptic positioned below a 5 posterior surface of the l lens; and wherein the optical lens is multi-focal.
13. The system of Claim 12, wherein the haptics are configured to couple the intraocular pseudophakic contact lens to ent types of cial intraocular lenses.
14. The system of Claim 12, r comprising: at least one drug-eluting device located on the intraocular pseudophakic contact lens and configured to r at least one medication.
15. 15 15. The system of Claim 12, wherein the intraocular pseudophakic contact lens is configured to maintain the optical lens above the anterior surface of the artificial intraocular lens.
16. The system of Claim 12, n the anterior surfaces of the haptics are 20 textured.
17. The system of Claim 12, wherein the intraocular pseudophakic contact lens further comprises at least one pin extending downward from the optical lens or the haptics, the at least one pin configured to rest on or pierce the artificial intraocular lens.
18. The system of Claim 12, wherein: each haptic comprises an inner portion and an outer portion; the inner portion of each haptic is positioned n the optical lens and the outer portion of the haptic; and 30 the inner portion of each haptic projects outward and posteriorly from the optical lens.
19. The system of Claim 18, wherein, for each haptic, the ridge is defined where a larger ess of the outer portion of the haptic meets a smaller thickness of the inner 1004885712 portion of the haptic.
20. The system of Claim 12, n the ridge of each haptic comprises a lip projecting from the ridge and extending inward from the ridge.
21. The system of Claim 12, wherein the optical lens is configured to at least partially correct a residual tive error in the eye, the residual refractive error comprising a refractive error that exists in the eye after implantation of the artificial cular lens in the eye.
22. The system of Claim 12, wherein the intraocular pseudophakic contact lens comprises at least three haptics ing radially from the l lens.
23. The system of Claim 12, wherein: 15 the artificial intraocular lens comprises haptics; and the haptics of the intraocular pseudophakic contact lens are shorter than the haptics of the artificial intraocular lens.
24.
