Abstract
Description
The invention relates to optical devices with variable optical parameters and can be used, for example, in the production of miniature lenses with variable focal length.
[1] - US №4097124, G 02 B 15/18, 27.06.1978; [2] - US №4099844, G 02 B 15/14, 11.07.1978; [3] - US №4861146, G 02 B 7/11, 29.08.1989; [4] - RU №2093867 (C1), G 02 B 3/14, 20.10.1997; [5] - US №5075709, G 03 B 1/18, 24.12.1991; [6] - US №5267044, H 04 N 5/232, H 04 N 5/225, 30.11.1993. Known lenses with variable focal length based on the use of movable optical elements, see, for example, [1] - US No. 4097124, G 02 B 15/18, 06/27/1978; [2] - US No. 4099844, G 02 B 15/14, 07/11/1978; [3] - US No. 4861146, G 02 B 7/11, 08/29/1989; [4] - RU No. 2093867 (C1), G 02 B 3/14, 10.20.1997; [5] - US No. 5075709, G 03 B 1/18, 12.24.1991; [6] - US No. 5267044, H 04 N 5/232, H 04 N 5/225, 11/30/1993. Structurally, such lenses are a lens system in which individual lenses or groups of lenses have the ability to change their position to change the focal length of the lens. Such lenses are characterized by the presence of rather complex mechanical units and drive mechanisms that provide the ability to move lenses or groups of lenses in the process of changing the focal length. The complexity of the design and the impossibility of miniaturization are the main disadvantage of such devices.
Known optical devices with variable optical parameters based on the use of deformable optical elements.
For example, in the devices described in [7] - US No. 5138494, G 02 B 1/06, G 02 C 1/10, 08/11/1992 (fig. 5, 6) and [8] - RU No. 2234722 (C2) , G 02 C 7/04, G 02 B 3/12, 08/20/2004, an optical element is used consisting of two lenses, the first of which is a lens with fixed parameters, and the second is a deformable liquid lens with variable optical parameters. The second lens is limited on one side by the surface of the first lens, and on the other by a transparent deformable membrane, while the space between the membrane and the first lens is filled with a transparent liquid of constant volume. The refractive indices of the fluid, the membrane and the first lens are selected as close as possible to each other. The transparent deformable membrane is enclosed in a rigid annular rim, which is connected to the peripheral part of the first lens with a flexible jumper, which makes it possible to change the distance between the membrane rim and the first lens. Changing the distance between the rim of the membrane and the first lens is carried out by a mechanical drive, such as a screw. When this distance changes, the liquid filling the volume between the membrane and the first lens changes the deflection of the membrane, which leads to a change in the focal length of the optical element.
A similar principle of changing the focal length, based on the deformation of a liquid lens, is implemented in the optical element described in [9] - RU No. 2046388 (C1), G 02 C 7/08, A 61 F 9/00, 10.20.1995. This optical element is a hollow lens made of a transparent elastic elastic material, and one of the lens surfaces is made with a constant radius of curvature, and the other with the possibility of changing the curvature under pressure of the liquid in the lens cavity. Unlike devices [7] and [8], the volume of fluid in the cavity of the lens is not constant, but is regulated by a piston mechanism that pumps fluid through the pipe from the corresponding reservoir. Due to the pressure created by the fluid, the deformable surface of the lens bends, changing the focal length of the optical element.
Common to the optical elements described in [7] - [9] is the presence of mechanical drive units in them for tuning optical parameters, which limits the possibility of miniaturization and narrows the scope of possible application of such optical elements.
The desire to get away from mechanical drive units for tuning optical parameters leads to the development of optical elements in which this tuning is carried out under the influence of physical fields.
п.).For example, an optical element is known, described in [10] - RU No. 2037164 (C1), G 02 B 3/14, G 02 F 1/29, G 02 F 1/33, A 61 F 9/00, 06/09/1995 , in which the change in focal length is carried out under the influence of an electric field. This optical element contains a disk-shaped cuvette made of a transparent dielectric material, into the cavity of which a drop of a transparent dielectric liquid, for example glycerin, is introduced. The size of the cavity of the cuvette in the direction of the light flux is selected based on the value of the capillary constant of the liquid-cuvette system, so that the capillary effect of the fluid adhering to the walls of the cuvette is ensured. A circular recess is made in the front wall of the cell (the first from the side of the light flux), in the area of which a flexible deformable portion of the free surface of the liquid is formed - a kind of liquid deformable lens, the curvature of the surface of which depends on the forces of surface tension and volume pressure. Transparent film electrodes, for example, of In 2 O 3 , are placed on the outer surfaces of both walls of the cuvette located in the path of the light flux, as well as on the inner surface of the front wall around the recess. These electrodes are connected through a control circuit to a power source that creates an electric field in the space between the electrodes that acts on the forces of surface tension and volume pressure in a liquid lens. As a result of the action of the electric field, the liquid lens is deformed, the curvature of its surface and, therefore, the refractive properties change, which leads to a change in the focal length of the optical element. The advantages of the considered optical element are the electronic control of its optical parameters and the ability to perform in small dimensions, and the disadvantage is the instability of the parameters under mechanical stress (vibration, shaking, etc.).
Known controlled optical element described in [11] - US No. 6369954 (B1), G 02 B 1/06, G 02 B 26/00, G 02 F 1/13, 04/09/2002, in which the optical surface is formed on the border section of two immiscible liquids with different refractive indices. This optical element as the closest in the aggregate of essential features adopted as a prototype.
В качестве первой жидкости используется диэлектрическая жидкость с показателем преломления n≈1,45, в качестве второй жидкости - электропроводящая жидкость с показателем преломления n≈1,35.The optical element, adopted as a prototype, contains a container containing two immiscible, transparent in the region of the working wavelengths of the liquid, differing in their refractive indices. As the first liquid, a dielectric liquid with a refractive index n≈1.45 is used, as a second liquid, an electrically conductive liquid with a refractive index n≈1.35 is used.
The container is made in the form of a cuvette transparent in the region of working wavelengths made of dielectric material. A drop of the first liquid is located on the inner surface of the first wall of the cuvette; the remaining space of the cavity of the cuvette is filled with the second liquid. The liquids interact with each other with the formation of an interphase surface separating them, the curvature of which determines the optical parameters of the optical element, in particular its focal length.
To fix the position of this interphase surface, a portion of the inner surface of the first wall of the cuvette, the surrounding area that the drop of the first liquid is in contact with, is subjected to a treatment that provides its increased wettability by the second liquid. In this case, the remaining sections of the inner surfaces of both walls of the cuvette, including the portion of the inner surface of the first wall of the cuvette with which a drop of the first liquid is in contact, remain untreated and retain the original wettability characteristic.
The change in the focal length of the optical element is carried out by deformation of the interphase surface under the influence of an electric field. For this purpose, the optical element is equipped with two electrodes. The first of the electrodes is located on the outer side of the first wall of the cuvette and surrounds the ring with the area of the drop of the first liquid. The second electrode is in direct contact with the second liquid. The electrodes through a control circuit are connected to a power source - a DC voltage source of 250 V. When you turn on the power source, the liquids are exposed to an electric field that affects the formation conditions of the interface separating them, which leads to its deformation (change in curvature). By changing the magnitude of the voltage using the control circuit, it is possible, within certain limits, to change the curvature of the interface and thereby control the focal length of the optical element.
The advantages of the optical element adopted as a prototype are the electronic control of its optical parameters and the ability to perform in small dimensions, and the disadvantages are the instability of the parameters under mechanical stress (vibration, shaking, etc.) and the complexity of reproduction in mass production. The first drawback is due to the absence of any mechanical fixation formed inside the interfacial cuvette. The second drawback is due to the complex, poorly mechanized manufacturing technology and the associated low repeatability of the characteristics from sample to sample.
п.).The task to which the claimed invention is directed is to develop a modification of an optical element with variable optical parameters, using the effect of the interfacial surface curvature formed at the interface between two immiscible liquids with different refractive indices, adapted for reproduction in mass production and resistant to mechanical stresses ( vibration, shaking, etc.).
The invention consists in the following. The optical element contains a container made of a dielectric material transparent in the region of working wavelengths, comprising two immiscible liquids transparent in the region of working wavelengths with different refractive indices, the first of which is dielectric, and the second has electrical conductivity properties that interact with each other to form the interface separating them, the curvature of which determines the optical parameters of the optical element, while the container is equipped with electrodes, zhaschimi to control the curvature of the interface. Unlike the prototype, a porous matrix is used as a container, the filling of which with the indicated liquids with the formation of an interface separating them is carried out by impregnation.
In particular cases of the implementation of the inventive optical element, porous matrix material of the DV-1 brand or similar material is used as the porous matrix material, the porous matrix has a cylindrical shape and is impregnated with the first liquid from the side of its first end and the second liquid from the side of the second end and side surface.
The invention and the possibility of its implementation are illustrated by the schematic drawing presented in the drawing, illustrating the composition and interaction of the main parts of the inventive optical element on the example of its implementation with a porous matrix of cylindrical shape.
The inventive optical element in the considered embodiment contains a porous matrix 1 of a cylindrical shape made of a dielectric material transparent in the region of working wavelengths and serving as a container for two immiscible liquids 2 and 3 transparent in the region of working wavelengths with different refractive indices. The liquid 2 is a dielectric and fills its part of the porous matrix 1 from the side of its first end 4. The liquid 3 has the properties of electrical conductivity and fills the rest of the porous matrix 1 from the side of its second end 5 and side surface. The porous matrix 1 was filled with dielectric liquid 2 and electrically conductive liquid 3 by sequentially impregnating it with these liquids.
As dielectric liquid 2, for example, mineral oil can be used, in particular, Marcol 52 transparent colorless mineral oil (refractive index n≈1.46). As the electrically conductive liquid 3 can be used, for example, water (refractive index n≈1.33). As the material of the porous matrix 1, for example, porous silicate glass of the DV-1 brand (glass refractive index n≈1.47) or a similar material can be used. All specified liquids and material are transparent to visible light.
1.The internal structure of the porous matrix 1, made of porous silicate glass "DV-1" or a similar material, is a sponge structure with a solid frame and through pores in the form of randomly interconnected caverns, the volume of which can reach about 30% of the total volume of the porous matrix one.
6.Inside the porous matrix 1, the dielectric liquid 2 and the electrically conductive liquid 3 filling its pores interact with each other with the formation of the interphase surface 6 separating them.
6.The curvature of the interfacial surface 6 determines the optical parameters of the optical element, in particular its focal length. The curvature of the interfacial surface 6 is a controlled parameter that depends on the voltage applied to the electrodes 7 and 8. In the example shown in the drawing, the electrode 7 is made in the form of a flat ring adjacent to the porous matrix 1 from the side of the end 4 (i.e., from the side of the dielectric liquid 2), and the electrode 8 is made in the form of a cylindrical sleeve covering the porous matrix 1 from the side of the side surface (i.e., from the side of the electrically conductive liquid 3). The position of the electrodes 7 and 8 on the porous matrix 1 is fixed by a frame 9 made of a dielectric material. The electrodes 7 and 8 through the corresponding wires are connected through a control circuit to a power source, for example, as in the prototype, to a DC voltage source of 250 V (not shown). The power source and control circuit provide the ability to generate the necessary electrical voltage to change the curvature of the interfacial surface 6.
1.If necessary, sealing the inventive optical element is placed, for example, in a sealed chamber (not shown), equipped with appropriate optical windows that allow light to pass along the optical axis perpendicular to the ends 4 and 5 of the porous matrix 1.
8.The manufacturing process of the inventive optical element consists of manufacturing a porous matrix 1, impregnating it with liquids 2 and 3 and equipping it with electrodes 7 and 8.
The manufacturing process of the porous matrix 1 can be illustrated by the example of its manufacture from porous silicate glass "DV-1". Porous silicate glass "DV-1" is an industrially manufactured material used, in particular, in drying cartridges; its manufacturing technology and characteristic features are described in detail, for example, in [12] - I. Meshkovsky. Composite optical materials based on porous matrices. Monograph. - St. Petersburg, 1998 (p. 3-13, 56-69, 184-198, 271-273, Fig. 174). In general terms, the process of manufacturing porous glass "DV-1" is as follows. Porous glass "DV-1" is made on the basis of the composition: Na 2 O - 7 (%, mol), В 2 О 3 - 23 (%, mol), SiO 2 - 70 (%, mol). The manufacturing technology consists of the following main stages: glass making and the development of preforms, annealing of preforms, chemical treatment (leaching). At the first stage, a homogeneous melt is prepared containing Na 2 O, B 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , from which, during the hardening process, preforms of the required shape are formed, in this case cylindrical rods of a certain size. Then, at the second stage, the obtained preforms, which are a glassy hardened solution of oxides, are subjected to heat treatment, in which a homogeneous solution decomposes into two phases. As a result of this process, regions of chemical heterogeneity appear in the solid, enriched with acid-soluble glass components: Na 2 O and B 2 O 3 . With the appropriate choice of the heat treatment mode, these regions form a dispersed phase in the form of closed inclusions tangent to each other. The third step is to leach these inclusions. Leaching leads to the transition to the solution of the main fraction of Na 2 O, B 2 O 3 and a certain fraction of SiO 2 . Since the oxides passing into the solution formed fragments of the glass structure before, their transition into the solution leads to the appearance of interconnected caverns, the combination of which forms a porous structure with a random arrangement of through pores resembling a natural sponge. The solid skeleton of such a porous glass is a hardened SiO 2 melt (dielectric transparent to visible light, refractive index n≈1.47). Moreover, depending on the processing conditions in the second and third stages, it is possible to obtain porous glass with a certain pore size, selected in a wide range of values (from tens to thousands of angstroms and above), which makes it possible to implement various options for the practical implementation of the inventive optical element.
1.From the obtained blanks (porous glass cylindrical rods) by machining, including trimming and polishing the ends, the number of porous matrices 1 required for the production of optical elements is made.
Next, the porous matrix 1 is impregnated with a dielectric liquid 2 and an electrically conductive liquid 3. The impregnation is carried out, for example, as follows. First, a metered drop of dielectric liquid 2 is applied to the center of the surface of the end face 4. Due to the wetting of the pore walls 2 by the liquid, a capillary flow occurs in them, under which the liquid 2 fills the corresponding part of the body of the porous matrix 1 from the side of the end face 4. Then, the porous matrix 1 is electrically conductive liquid 3, for example, by dipping the porous matrix 1 in a bath of liquid 3. As a result, the liquid 3 fills the remainder of the porous matrix 1 and comes into interaction with the liquid 2. t of the interaction of liquids 2 and 3 inside the porous matrix 1, an interphase surface 6 separating these liquids is formed, the curvature of which determines the optical parameters of the optical element. Moreover, since liquids 2 and 3 are connected by the pores of the porous matrix 1, the interphase surface 6 thus formed is very resistant to mechanical stress. In addition, the result of the impregnation of the porous matrix 1 is to increase its transparency and reduce light scattering compared with the initial "dry" state. This is due to the displacement of air from the pores of the porous matrix 1 and its replacement with fluids 2 and 3, the refractive index of which is closer to the refractive index of the material of the porous matrix 1 than the refractive index of air.
Then, electrodes 7 and 8 equipped with corresponding wires are docked to the porous matrix 1, after which the electrodes 7 and 8 are fixed on the surface of the porous matrix 1 using the frame 9. If necessary, the entire structure is sealed.
The optical element made in this way is ready for operation.
During operation of the optical element, its focal length is controlled, as in the prototype, by changing the voltage applied to the electrodes 7 and 8. This voltage affects the current conditions for the formation of interphase surface 6, as a result of which its curvature and, therefore, the focal length optical element.
The considered design of the inventive optical element is adaptable, allows you to automate manufacturing processes and obtain samples with repeatable characteristics, which, moreover, are characterized by resistance to mechanical stress. The latter, as noted above, is due to the fact that the formation of the interphase surface 6 separating immiscible liquids 2 and 3 was carried out not in a cuvette with the free state of liquids, which takes place in the prototype, but inside a solid porous transparent body inside a porous matrix 1, where these liquids are in a bound state, forming a stable composition with the material of the porous matrix 1. All these positive qualities of the claimed optical element, along with electronic control of optical parameters and possibly Tew miniaturization make the inventive optical element is suitable for playback in mass production and attractive for a variety of applications, for example in miniature lenses with variable focal distance.
Thus, the above shows that the claimed invention is feasible and solves the problem of developing a modification of an optical element with variable optical parameters, using the effect of the curvature of the interphase surface formed at the interface of two immiscible liquids with different refractive indices, adapted for reproduction in mass production and possessing resistance to mechanical stress.
