Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 126,249, dated April 30, 1872.

To all 'whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES BALLINGER, of Buchanan, in the county of Allegheny and in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water- Bucket; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyin g drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.

The nature of my invention consists in a wooden bucket provided with an interior lining of glass or other similar material, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which represents a longitudinal vertical section of my improved bucket.

A represents the Wooden outside bucket, made like an ordinary Wooden bucket, and provided with a ledge or flange, a, near the top around the inside, so that when the lining is placed in and the hoops driven up the lining and ange will stand iiush, said projecting ange protecting the edge of the lining, and

preventing it from coming out. The lining B is blown or pressed, and Y ground to proper length; then one or more gum-elastic bands, b, is slipped over the outside. It is then placed in the wooden shell A, and, the hoops of the same being tightened, it is held firmly in place. The object of using the gum bands b is to prevent the lining from coming in contact with the Wood, and thus protecting it from being broken by concussion from the outside. interior lining B may be made of any kind of glass-transparent, colored, or opaque-or of porcelain or other similar material.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
