Description

s. GR OTH COLLAR BUTTON Filed Ma y'l4, 1926 Patented Nov. 16, 1926;.
UNITED stares 1 SIEM GROTH, or DAYTON, TEXAS.
COLLAR BUTTON.
Application filed May 14,
. My invention relates to buttons for shirt collars or thelike, whereina detachable button is inserted into a button hole upon the III . which can be readily adjusted to secure the button in place and which will not be notice-- able when the article is being used.
Referring to the drawing herewith'wherein a preferred embodiment of the invention. is shown, Fig. 1 is a side view partly in section showing a button employing my invention, the device shown in connection with a section of garment. Fig. 2 is aside elevation taken at right angles to the view shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an elevation showing the button in detached position. Fig. 4 is a' top plan view ofthe button as shown in Fig. 2. Like numerals of reference are employed to designate like parts. in all the views. I
The button upon which my improvement is connected may be made in various ways, and I have shown in the drawing a button having a circular base 1 with a central upright post 2 thereon, and a head 3 at the.
' upper end of the post: I have shown the head as being approximately frusto-conical in shape, although its shape maybe varied without departing from the spirit of the invention.
On the lower side of the head 3 at a point adjacent the post 2 I provide a recess 4 extending upwardly into the head from the lower side thereof. At the side of the base radially outward from the recessl in the head, I form a catch 5. Said catch is made of resilient metal, the lower edge being con- 1926. Serial No. 109,065.
nected with themargin of the base and bent inwardly and at an upward incline, as shown at 6, to a point adjacent the post, and is then directed upwardly along the side thereof so that the point 7 maybereceived within the recess 4 when the button is in latched position.
When using this button, thepoint 7 of the catch is bent downwardly and released from the'head, as shown in Fig. 3. The head or the button is then inserted through the button hole, shown at 8' in Fig. 1, and the catch member is then bent inwardly .above the band 9-of the shirt and is depressed so that the point 7 may come'within the recess 4: of the'head. The catch is then-released so that it will assume the position shown in Fig. 1. It will be obvious that when the collar is attached fto the button when in latched position, the presence of the catch or guard 5 will not be noticeable. It will, however, beimpossible for the button to become loosened and lost even when the collar is unbuttoned. i
VVhenit is desired to remove the button, it
is only necessaryto depress the lower portion'6 of the catch member so as to remove the point7-from the recess in the head of the button and allow it to be moved resiliently away from the head into the Fig. 3 position. The button may then be readily removed.
It is believedthat the advantages of this device will be obvious to those skilled in the art, and while I have shown the invention as applied to a particular'structure of button, it is to be understood that it is applicable to any ordinary type of collar button, or any button of similar nature, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what f I claim asnew and desire to protect by Letters Patent is: v V
1. In a button structure of thecharacter described including a base member, a central post thereon and a head .on said post, the
combination of a catch member of resilient material secured to said base at the margin thereof and extended inwardly in'spaced.
relation above said base, said catch member having means thereon adapted to lie along said post and engagefsaid-heed detachably in the manner described.
2. In a button structure of the character described including a circular base member. a central post on said base, the head on said post having a lower recess at one. Side thereof, a catch member on said base radially out-- Ward from said recess, said catch member being of resillent materlal 1ncl1nedupwvardly to said post and having a point thereon adapted-to resiliently engage" Within the said recess. v y
